Summary

Back in December, in honor of the brand’s 30th anniversary,PlayStationfinally let gamers customize theirPS5sbyintroducing themed elements from throughout the console’s history. Through the update, players could instantly transform their PS5 into thePS1,PS2orPS3, complete with themed UIs, sound effects and more.

Unfortunately, it was a limited offering, and by late January, the themes were gone. However, not without the company promising to bring them back “in the months ahead.”

That day has finally come, andvia a new update, those original themes are back for players to make use of. Well, almost all of them, as it appears one key feature is missing.

As first spotted by the folks at Video Games Chronicle, the most recent PlayStation update has brought back everything but the original PS1 start-up animation that was originally present when the feature launched back in December.

Right now, it’s unclear why exactly everything made a return save for the PS1-themed startup. It’s possible that, because it referenced the 30th Anniversary of PlayStation, it’s considered dated. At the same time, the PS4 maintained the 20th Anniversary theme long past the anniversary.

We’re not software engineers, but wouldn’t it be easy for the company to simply just remove that portion if that was the case? Considering that the console has a limited number of customization options as is, the lack of a previous option is a gut-punch.
