Summary

Update 14-07-2025 19:44 BST - Industry insider Jeff Grubb has claimed thatPlayStation will hold an event of some kind this summer, though he is unsure about whether it’s a State of Play or a full showcase. Original story follows.

It sounds likePlayStationisn’t going to be having its usual Summer showcase this year, as multiple insiders have pointed to the company aiming for a later date.

Although the last few months of 2025 have been far from drythanks to GTA 6’s second trailer,Clair Obscur’s expectation-shattering release, and a ton of other great launches, things are finally about to get a little more exciting. We’re just afew short weeks away from Summer Game Fest, which means that gamers are in for a ton of announcements and reveals.

So far, we don’t actually know too much of what to expect this Summer.Xbox has already confirmed that it’ll have a showcase, but Nintendo and PlayStation have been weirdly quiet over the last few months.Nintendo makes sense with the Switch 2 launching on June 6, and it seems that PlayStation might have good reason for not sharing anything.

Don’t Expect A PlayStation State Of Play Or Showcase This Summer

Here’s Hoping The Next One Is Bigger To Compensate

Over on Twitter, reliable insider NateDrake responded to a comment asking about whether PlayStation would be having a showcase this Summer, something that fans have been wondering about for months. In response, Nate simply said that he hasn’t heard of a showcase or presentation happening in the coming months.

Considering how spot-on NateDrake has been with leaks lately, that already seems like enough to believe that PlayStation is skipping the Summer Game Fest season. That’s not where it ended, though,as ResetEra user Blackbird shared a thread asking people if they think a showcase is comingthis year or not.

In response to that thread and someone suggesting that PlayStation is probably aiming for a September show, insider John Harker responded simply saying “indeed”. This seems to indicate that PlayStation is pushing its show back until Autumn instead of having a show this Summer like it usually does.

That might be a little disappointing to hear, but it does hopefully mean that PlayStation pulls out all of the stops and has a full showcase instead of just a State of Play. We’ll know for sure when Sony announces its plans, hopefully in the next few weeks before Summer Game Fest goes live.
