How Many Pikachu Squishmallows Do We Need?

With the addition of a Smiling Pikachu Squishmallow to the range, it now means three of those 16 Squishmallows are modeled after the Pokemon mascot. I know that Pikachu is the best-known Pokemon in the world, and one of the most recognizable animated characters even outside of Pokemon, but a third Squishmallow design when there have only been 16 total might rub some Pokemon fans the wrong way.

The Pokemon Company knows what it’s doing, of course, and if it feels the need to have regular Squishmallow Pikachu and Winking Pikachu be joined by a Smiling Pikachu, it must mean that the other two have sold very well. The original Pikachu Squishmallow was part of the original rollout of the range and remains sold out at the Pokemon Center, butthe Winking Pikachu revealed later is in stock.

Neither Torchic nor the Smiling Pikachu Squishmallow are available yet since they haven’t been officially revealed by Pokemon or Squishmallows. The gaps between Pokemon Squishmallows being revealed and the plushes going on sale tend to differ. There was a two-week gap between the Chansey and Eevee reveal and release, but the Squishmallows revealed before that,Fuecoco and Bellibolt, took two months to get here after their reveal.

Pokemon’s Squishmallows were presumably a part ofthe latest lawsuit demand by Build-A-Bearin its ongoing legal battle with Squishmallows' creators. Build-A-Bear’s Skoosherz have been accused of being too close in design to Squishmallows, and the former requested the latter send it one of every single Squishmallow for research purposes. The judge overseeing the case denied that request.
