Summary

The world ofMy Hero Academiais made up of individuals with quirks and superpowers implanted within their genetic code. In a world where spitting out fire and leveling entire buildings is the norm, Izuku Midoriya is seemingly born quirkless, just an ordinary person in a world of magic and powers.

Perhaps out of spite, Deku ended up possessing more quirks than any of his classmates, having access to a whopping total of seven entirely different quirks he gained from previous holders of One For All. While some helped him in his quest against evil, others were more anticlimactic.

7Float

The Ability To Fly

Float, much like the name says, is a quirk that allows the user to float in the air. While the quirk’s name may make you think it’s similar to Uraraka’s Anti Gravity quirk, rendering the afflicted individual free to roam in the air, Deku instead uses it for flight.

This quirk may not pack the same punch as many other ones, but the convenience of being free from the restrictions of terrain makes it an extremely useful quirk to have if you have other ways of dealing damage. However, by itself, it does end up falling short.

6Smokescreen

Get Out Of Any Situation

Smokescreen follows the trend of One for All quirks being very aptly named, and to no surprise, smokescreen is a quirk that manifests a cloud of smoke to block enemy vision. It’s a utility quirk that has a more supportive or defensive use, but it still isn’t something to be underestimated.

This doesn’t combo with Deku’s other quirks for strong effect like some others do, but it’s a quirk that has still saved Deku from certain death on more than one occasion. Still, with no offensive capabilities or versatility in its use, the other quirks are a lot more potent.

5Black Whip

Numerous Additional Limbs

Black Whip is the first quirk apart from the base One for All that Izuku Midoriya got the ability to use. In its first appearance, it resembled a Lovecraftian monster as it wrung its limbs around a number of1-B students.

Once Deku got to control it better, it turned into something more akin to Spiderman’s webs, letting him swing around places and use it as a grapple. It can still manifest and be used as durable, aggressive tentacles, though, and the versatility and strength make it a solid quirk.

4Danger Sense

Never Get Hit

The Spider-man similarities don’t end with the webslinging. Deku has his own version of Spidey Sense. Belonging to the fourth One for All user, this quirk lets Deku sense and dodge any incoming attacks regardless of whether he sees them or not.

Danger Sense works through intent or a gut feeling, giving the user a sharp intention whenever the threat of damage or someone’s malicious intentions are detected. The quirk works as a perfect counter to surprise attacks or deceit, things you’ll undoubtedly be subjected to when going against villains.

3Fa Jin

Store Kinetic Energy

Fa Jin by itself isn’t the greatest quirk and seems more like a discount version of the strength that One For All possesses. However, when paired with said One For All, as well as other quirks that can increase strength and velocity, Fa Jin becomes no less than any of the greatest quirks in My Hero Academia.

Fa Jin’s ability lets the user store kinetic energy instead of immediately emitting it upon use. Put simply, the more you move, the more you charge up Fa Jin. Once you feel sufficient energy has been stored, Fa Jin lets you release it at once, resulting in bursts of strength and speed.

2Gearshift

Change Force Direction

Gearshift is a quirk that deals with motion and vectors. It’s quite similar to Fa Jin, but differs slightly. The quirk’s ability lets the user change vector directions to immediately redirect where a force is being applied.

This, when paired with All for One and Fa Jin (and occasionally Black Whip) lets Midoriya achieve feats of strength and speed unseen by even All Might in his prime, at least periodically.

1One For All

The Quirk Befitting A True Hero

All of the quirks are good by themselves, but Deku only gets the chance to use them because he holds one of thegreatest quirks of all time, One For All. Previously belonging to the Number One Hero, as well as Izuku’s own mentor, All Might, One for All was thought to be a simple strength-enhancing quirk at first.

However, despite All Might being able to take this simple superhuman strength to become arguably the greatest hero of all time, it held many more secrets within. Once the time for it came, Deku got access to the remnants of theprevious One For All usersand became able to talk with them and learn from their experiences. Furthermore, he could harness the power of the quirks these previous heroes held. Without One For All, Izuku Midoriya wouldn’t have become Deku.
