Summary
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolveshas 17 characters total in its launch roster, with some controversy tossed in the mix,all of whom take advantage of the new systems and mechanics available, making them substantially stronger since the last time you’ve seen them in Mark of the Wolves, 26 years ago.
One of these new systems is the REV-based Hidden Gear Supers, allowing each fighter to unleash a devastating assault on their opponent for massive damage and style points. However, not all are created equally, and some are substantially better than others, ranging from impact to execution to visual flair!

17Cristiano Ronaldo
Kicking things off, pun intended, isCristiano Ronaldo, who does things a bit differently than other characters, as you will come to notice throughout this list. While his Hidden Gear ends with a bang and has a massive impact, the buildup to it is slow and uneventful.
Ronaldo’s Hidden Gear is in a very peculiar spot, as its payoff is pretty grand, but every other facet about it is mid at best. As a result, we decided to place him at the bottom of the list, as most of the other cast members suffer from the opposite, having less of a payoff but a more exciting and impactful buildup!

16Rock Howard
Next up isRock Howard, who sort of let us down on this one. While the visuals are fantastic, having him sprout large purple wings of energy, before unleashing a devastating Power Geyser, which… doesn’t quite have the impact you think it would.
After he executes the Power Geyser, you see the enormous explosion of energy, but don’t see, feel, or hear the impact. It just sort of happens, making it fall flat at the very end. Everything up to the grand finale is excellent, though, but it’s not enough to move it further up the list!

15Kain R. Heinlein
Kain R. Heinleinfollows, offering a visual treat with his Hidden Gear. While the ending is a bit of a bummer too, it’s a bit better overall than Rock’s, as you get to see him unleash a wave of explosions on his target in rapid succession.
However, the buildup to this is also a bit slower than usual and is missing that special ‘something’ the top Supers have, keeping it locked to the lower portion of the list. Though it is considerably better than Rock’s, placing it a tier or so above it!

14Kevin Rian
From there, it’s time to focus on Kevin Rian, who also lets us down quite a bit, as his Hidden Gear has the potential to be one of the best in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. We love the faces the opposition makes just before he punches the high-velocity grenade round.
But, the buildup to this moment is a bit sluggish, as it lingers on odd frames for a tad too long, making the payoff feel somewhat delayed and unimpactful when it finally does happen. It’s a decent Super overall, but nothing to write home about!

13B. Jenet
Diving into the rankings next isB. Jenet, who has a very flashy Hidden Gear that sort of happens far too quickly to comprehend what’s going on. As she begins soaring through the air, random missiles begin trailing behind her, creating a beautiful collection of stars around her.
She then delivers a fierce kick to her opponent, sending them hurtling toward the ground as the missiles blow past her and make direct contact with her target as they reach the ground, creating a devastating explosion. If it weren’t so oddly framed or paced, it would likely be much higher, but, as it stands, it’s near the bottom as well!

12Terry Bogard
Terry Bogardblasts his way into the list with his extremely flashy and potent Hidden Gear, having him generate a towering flame tornado with his Cosmic Strike Geyser. While the visuals are undeniably cool, it unfortunately fizzles out at the end.
There isn’t a satisfying conclusion to this Super, which holds it back drastically. We would have loved to see his target being spun around the fire tornado while being consumed by the flames or something of the sort. Instead, it just sort of ends, causing it to fall hard in the rankings!

11Billy Kane
Speaking of fiery Hidden Gears,Billy Kane’sis up next, having him use his santetsuken to violently spin his opponent in the air above himself until they’re sucked up into a massive ball of fire, creating one of the better visuals in the game.
Billy Kane’s Super is very, very good, but the buildup and payoff can be a bit basic, lacking the impact you’re looking for in a Hidden Gear. Nonetheless, it’s still much better than the ones before it, having it leapfrog them near the center of the list!

10Kim Dong Hwan
Kicking off the top ten, pun intended, again, isKim Dong Hwan, the taekwondo prodigy who generates lightning strikes with his unbelievably fast kicks. This Hidden Gear is very flashy and stunning to watch in action.
Kim Dong Hwan crushes it with this Super, giving us a decent beginning, an excellent middle, and an okay end, which is more than you’re able to say about the ones before him. So far, this is the best one by a mile!

9Hotaru Futaba
Hotaru Futabajumps into play, offering a very cinematic and devastating Hidden Gear, having her deliver a series of crushing blows on her opponent, before piledriving them into the ground, capping it off with her gathering energy and unleashing it into their back at point blank range.
The pacing, execution, and visuals of this Super all hit, making it an excellent Hidden Gear to follow from beginning to end. It also packs a punch, and you’re able to feel the impact, which is very rare, as you likely discovered by now!

8Hokutomaru
Another fiery Hidden Gear isHokutomaru’s,having him perform a series of dive kicks and ninja tactics, generating large swaths of flame that scorch his target every step of the way. It’s snappy, exhilarating, and unbelievably flashy.
While the ending is quite what we’re looking for, it is still a solid Super, easily placing him within the top ten. Hokutomaru is a very agile and aggressive fighter, and this Hidden Gear demonstrates all of that and then some throughout!
