Summary
Update: 06-07-2025 01:10AM BST -According to a report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, between 300–400 jobs have been cut under this wave of layoffs. Original story follows.
Respawn, the studio behindApex Legends,Star Wars Jedi, andTitanfall, has announced a wave of layoffs. It’s unclear how many devs are affected, but the layoffs are felt across multiple teams and include game cancellations.

As part of the move, two projects that were in the “incubation” phase, very early in development, have been cancelled. We don’t know what these games were, but they were not related to Star Wars Jedi, as Respawn confirms that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is still getting a sequel.
Respawn Lays Off Workers Across Multiple Projects
If another Titanfall game was in development, it may have just been cancelled
The lengthy statement from Respawn does not use the word “layoffs”, but it’s clear from the language that this is what has happened at the studio.
“We’ve made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi,” the statement reads. “These decisions aren’t easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected.”
It’s unclear how many have been affected, but at least one dev has confirmed that they were included in the layoffs. “After dodging 3 years of layoffs I finally got hit, right after moving onto a project I thought was stable for a few years,“saysformer associate quality designer at Respawn, Ben Gosselin
Respawn’s statement then goes on to explain what this means for Apex Legends and the next Star Wars Jedi game, since both teams have also been caught up in the layoffs.
For Apex, Respawn says the following: “While the team will continue to refine gameplay and bring new ideas to upcoming seasons, we’re also investing in what’s next for the franchise.” It also states that the team will be exploring new “bold experiences” for the game.
As for Star Wars, it’s even more vague. “We’re excited to keep building new stories - with the next chapter of the Star Wars Jedi series aiming to raise the bar again for storytelling and gameplay,” the post says.
Nothing else is mentioned, so we don’t know what other games were in the incubation phase when Respawn pulled the plug. Many are assuming one of them was Titanfall 3, as there had previously beensome hope that the long-awaited follow-up was in development.
