Summary

As with every online competitive game, theRocket Leaguecommunity is used to dealing with alternate accounts. There are a few reasons why players create alternate accounts, with the primary reason being that players want to play at a lower rank than their main account, an act commonly known as ‘smurfing’.

Although this practice is controversial, it was through alternate accounts that a strange feature of Rocket League may have been discovered. It all begins withSingle-Rock2776. If this discovery is Watergate, asZestyPyramidSchemesarcastically describes it, then Mr. Rock is Mark “Deep Throat” Felt.

The whistleblower created a thread three months ago, outlining their suspicion that—despite using the same settings, controller and platform—two accounts in Rocket League can have cars that control completely differently. Their theory was that changing one’s settings in Rocket League creates a setting “residue” that permanently alters the control of one’s car, even if the settings are changed back to default.

Single-Rock’s failure to provide substantial proof caused others to disregard their observations. They were mocked and labelled as a conspiracy theorist, but they never stopped arguing their case, utterly convinced that something was amiss.

Then cameRegular-Performer967. This new detective has added more fuel to the fire, overlaying footage of a car’s turning circle from two different accounts. Despite using the same controller and having the same settings, one of the cars turns noticeably slower than the other.

Interestingly, they also tested it out using the D-Pad and found there was no difference, meaning the problem could have something to do with joystick settings.

Other players have also noticed this phenomenon, withFoxie66saying “Holy sht, you’re telling me I’m not tripping when I could swear this sht happens? Can someone figure out what this is, please?”

Single-Rock also chimed in, saying, “Welcome to the club my guy,” in response to the thread, revelling in the fact that others are beginning to see their truth. In the past, they’ve also offered acash rewardto anyone who could prove their theory was correct.

It will take a lot of work to find the root of these differences, but perhaps there’s someone out there who has enough time and energy to get to the bottom of this mystery.
