After ten movies in 20 years, reports were circulating last week seemingly confirming that there would be no Saw 11 and that the long-running horror franchise had come to an end. A week later, those rumors have been quashed, and Billy the Puppet is the source.
“I’ve seen the rumors. They say it’s Game Over. You all should know me better than that. The game is never over,” were Billy’s exact words. That’s a statement from Lionsgate, the studio behind the Saw movies, of course,by way of The Hollywood Reporter. While the status of Saw 11 has changed, it seems there were some crossed wires last week as no, the franchise is not dead.
Saw got a soft reboot in 2023. The tenth movie in the series takes place between the first and second movies as John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, played by Tobin Bell, is scammed in his quest to find a cure for his cancer. A year after its release, Lionsgate confirmed there would be a Saw 11 and that the next installment in what would make Saw an undecology would be released in the fall of 2025.

The confusion appears to have stemmed from Saw 11 being replaced on the Lionsgate calendar. The Strangers: Chapter 2 has taken what would have been Saw 11’s release date this September. That may have been why some made the leap and assumed not only that Saw 11 had been canceled, but that the horror series would be ending for good after ten installments.

Reports that there have been arguments internally between Lionsgate and Saw 11’s producers also furthers rumors that the series might be coming to a quiet and uneventful end. Ten movies later, however, there still appears to be life in the franchise. We just don’t know when exactly that 11th movie will be here.
If Saw X were to be the final movie in the series, it would be a hell of a place to stop. The tenth movie was a return to form for the run of horror movies;its 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoesfar and away the best-performing Saw movie of all time. Some might think ending on a high like that is a good idea, but for now, Lionsgate and Billy the Puppet will press on.
