Seraphs are a new class unique toDaggerheart, Critical Role’s tabletop roleplaying game. These fearsome fighters are the equivalent of clerics in Dungeons & Dragons, and are both powerful combatants and healers. Unlike clerics, though, seraphs don’t necessarily need to be beholden to a deity; in fact, some align themselves with a cause or army instead.
So, if you’re diving into Daggerheart for the first time, and you’re not sure exactly what class to play, consider the seraph. They’re highly effective and are unique to Daggerheart, which is an added perk. Here’s everything you need to know about building a seraph in Daggerheart.

Seraph Class Overview
As mentioned, seraphs are divine warriorsthat serve asthe main support class in Daggerheart.
They draw on the power of theSplendor and Valor domains, and have a handful of starting abilities that areuseful for healing allies.

Hope Feature
Can spend three Hope to clear HP on an ally within Close Range.
Prayer Dice
At the top of the session, roll a number of d4s equal to your subclass’s spellcast trait:these serve as your Prayer Dice.
You canspend any number of Prayer Dice to aid an ally within Far Rangeor yourself by reducing damage, gaining hope equal to the number on the die, or adding to a roll.

Seraph Subclasses
Like all classes in Daggerheart, seraphs have two subclassesavailable to choose from:
Both subclasses use Strength as their spellcast trait, making it an important character trait for seraphs. Each of these subclassescan be powerful, so choosing between them is more about matching your character concept than anything else.

Key Features
Divine Wielder
Divine Wielders haveaccess to a holy weaponthat can fly and attack enemies, as well as help heal your allies.
You alsogain an extra Prayer Dice, and you may discard the lowest result of your rolls.

Ultimately, this subclass is great if you want to doextra weapon damage and get some buffs to your support abilities.
Winged Sentinel
Winged Sentinels haveaccess to a pair of radiant wingsthat allow them to fly above the battlefield and deal extra damage.
Your winged presence also gives you anadvantage on Presence Rollsas part of your specialization feature, and can nerf the GM’s Fear pool.
This subclass is all about higher mobility, nerfing the GM, and doing extra damage with your wings while flying.
Remember, not all of these subclass abilities are available right from the start.
You’ll have to level up your character andavoid multiclassing to get most of these abilities.
Best Character Traits For A Seraph
The most important character trait for a seraph is going to be Strength, as this trait is your spellcast trait, no matter your subclass.
If you’re playing a Divine Wielder, you’re able to capitalize on an already high Strength trait andselect a weapon that also uses Strength.
Each Daggerheart character guide, attached to their sheet, has suggested starting trait values and weapons as well.
If you’re playing a Winged Sentinel, you’ll also want tomake sure you have a decently high Presencestat as well. Beyond those traits, you can use your traits to flesh out your character concept.
What Are The Best Ancestries For A Seraph?
Seraphs have a relatively low starting evasion, meaning depending on the armor they select, they could prove to be more susceptible to damage and attacks.
That’s why, when it comes to selecting an ancestry, it’s nice topick one that can increase your durability. Three ancestries do just that:
Each of these ancestries has abilities that canmake sure you stay up longer in combat, and can therefore help your allies for longer.
While these ancestries have the best abilities for damage resistance, ultimately, many ancestries' bonuses to Hope and other abilities can work too; these are just our recommendations based on the seraph’s starting evasion.
What Are The Best Communities For A Seraph?
While ultimately, your community choice should inform your character concept more than optimization, two communities in Daggerheart have features that synergize wellwith a few seraph abilities:
Orderborne
Life Support
Your Hope feature as a seraph is very important, so you’ll want tocollect as much Hope as possible to help your party.
When orderborne characters live up to a principle of theirs, they can use a d20 as their Hope die, making it more likely for them to gain Hope in the future.
Seaborne
Ethereal Visage
Winged Sentinels have an ability known as Ethereal Visage, in whichthey can remove a Fear from the GM’s pool by succeeding with Hopeon a Presence roll.
Seaborne’s have an ability that allows them tobenefit from rolling with Fear.
So, with both abilities in tow,you can roll with Fear and benefit, and roll with Hope on Presence rollsand potentially remove the Fear that the GM earned previously.
Best Starter Domain Cards For A Seraph
At character creation, you’ll be asked toselect two Domain Cardsfrom your respective Domains. Seraphs haveaccess to Splendor and Valor cards.
Here are some of the best Domain Cardsyou can take at level one from each Domain:
I Am Your Shield
Valor
This ability is great as youcan defend your allies in combat, and take damage for them, marking as many Armor Slots as you want.
Bolt Beacon
Splendor
This is a standard Splendor damage spell thatdoes solid damage and can make enemy targets Vulnerable.
Mending Touch
This ability allows you tospend two Hope and clear either one HP or Stresson an ally over a few minutes.
Plus, once per long rest, you can clear two HP or two Stressif you learn something new about an ally or reveal something about yourself.
