Summary

TheNarutoseries is known for havingsome of the strongest and most overpowered charactersin anime, such as the Yellow Flash of the Leaf Village himself, Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, and Naruto’s father. His feats and combat prowess are seemingly unmatched when you finally get to see him in action.

While Minato is in a league of his own and is immensely powerful, there are very few shinobi who could stand toe-to-toe with him and even fewer who could beat him in combat. Nonetheless, they do exist and should also be placed on the same pedestal as the Fourth Hokage!

Nagato standing in the pouring rain with his Rinnegan activated in Naruto: Shippuden.

10Nagato (Six Paths Of Pain)

A Battle Of Wits And Knowledge

Pain is one of the most beloved villains in Naruto, as his entire arc is filled with some of the best moments in Shippuden, culminating with one of the more unique encounters you will ever see in a shonen anime. And while he did take down the likes of Jiraya with relative ease, it will likely be a different story with Minato.

All things considered, if Minato doesn’t know about the Six Paths of Pain gimmick in Nagato’s game plan, things can get ugly for him very quickly. But, if he has that knowledge, it likely won’t even be close, as Minato would clear without breaking a sweat. Still, we feel that Nagato’s Rinnegan and Six Paths of Pain gimmick can be just enough to overwhelm and surprise an unsuspecting Minato!

Might Guy activate the Seventh Gate in Naruto: Shippuden.

9Might Guy (Seventh Gate)

A Time Sensitive Encounter

On paper, Might Guy is easily one of the strongest characters in Naruto, especially once he begins ascending through the Eight Inner Gates. However, there is one massive caveat: if he reaches the Eighth Gate, he will die after the effect ends.

In an actual toe-to-toe battle, we feel Might Guy can defeat Minato with at least the Seventh Gate, but going to the Eighth Gate would be foolish, as Minato could just use his Flying Raijin ninjutsu and teleport himself far away, leaving Guy for dead. Nonetheless, we feel that Might Guy still has a solid chance if he doesn’t surpass the Seventh Gate!

Itachi Uchiha entering the hidden leaf village in his Akatsuki robe in Naruto.

8Itachi Uchiha

Speed Traps

One of the most potent and coolest characters in the series is undoubtedly Itachi Uchiha, as he can outsmart and overpower just about anyone he squares up against, which even proved true with the likes of Orochimaru, who never even came close to making Itachi break a sweat.

However, while Itachi is tremendously strong, his only real win condition istrapping Minato in his Tsukuyomi genjutsu, which won’t be a walk in the park due to the lightning-fast speed Minato possesses and his ability to peace out with his Flying Raijin teleportation technique.

Obito Uchiha disguised as Tobi, wearing an orange mast with his Mangekyō Sharingan exposed in Naruto: Shippuden.

Like Nagato and Might Guy before him, we feel this one is a coin toss and really comes down to the situation, but still favors Minato overall. But, there’s still a slight chance Itachi takes it, thanks to his Mangekyō Sharingan’s unique Tsukuyomi ability!

7Obito Uchiha (Tobi)

The Rematch Of A Lifetime

Obito Uchiha was a former student of the Fourth Hokage, until he was presumed dead in combat, only to be swept away by Madara, kicking off the events where he would awaken his Mangekyō Sharingan, giving him the ability to use Kamui.

Even so, Obito has lost to Minato in the past when he tried to unleash the Nine-Tailed Fox Spirit onto the Hidden Leaf Village. However, that was when he was 14 years old, and a lot has changed since then. We think he has a real shot at taking him down in this form after receiving the Hashirama Cells from Madara and White Zetsu.

Tobirama Senju standing in front of the Hidden Leaf Village in Naruto: Shippuden.

Bear in mind, this is only with the Mangekyō Sharingan, as we feel he would clear Minato with the Rinnegan he stole from Nagato with ease, and would demolish him in his Juubi form. Regardless, we think that an adult Obito vs. Minato would have a very different outcome than their first encounter!

6Tobirama Senju

An Exhilarating Showdown

A battle for the ages, to be sure, would be the Tobirama Senju versus Minato Namikaze, as they have much in common. Tobirama is the Second Hokage, while Minato is the Fourth Hokage. And Tobirama invented the Flying Raijin Jutsu that Minato more or less perfected.

Overall, we think this fight would be exceptionally close, but a slight edge would be given to Tobirama, thanks to his proficiency with Nature Transformation Jutsu, which allows him to use practically every nature type under the sun, and his expertise with Kenjutsu, making him an expert swordsman.

Hashirama Senju entering Sage Mode in Naruto: Shippuden.

On top of that, he also has access to the Bringer-of-Darkness Technique, a potent genjutsu that, when mixed with his blazing fast speed and Flying Raijin Jutsu, makes him very difficult to deal with, even for Minato. We think the Second Hokage takes this fight by a slim margin!

5Hashirama Senju

Can You Really Defeat A God?

When it comes to gods in the Naruto universe, Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage, is the closest you will get outside of the Sage of Six Paths, as he is immensely strong and has tremendously broken abilities that place him in an otherworldly tier of his own.

His ability to heal himself without having to weave hand signs is a massive point in his favor, and that’s not even covering the fact that he can summon several Rashōmon Gates to block any incoming damage with ease. He will be remarkably challenging to deal any damage to.

Edo Tensei Madara Uchiha with a Rinnegan taunting with the Five Kage in Naruto: Shippuden.

This is even before factoring in his Sage Mode, Nature Transformation proficiency, and his devastating Sage Art Wood Release: Several Thousand Hands technique that would flatten just about anyone he uses it against. Hashirama takes this one!

4Madara Uchiha (Edo Rinnegan)

When Does Someone Become Unfair?

Matching the likes of Hashirama in terms of tremendous poweris Madara Uchiha, who drove him to the brink of defeat before being slain in battle. Or so everyone thought. Instead, Madara escaped with little of his life left and set up a long-term plan to be revived via Rinne Rebirth, which went a bit south during the Pain Arc in Shippuden.

Nonetheless, he is still brought back thanks to Kabuto’s Edo Tensei (Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation), giving him Hashirama Cells and a Rinnegan to go along with it, making him one of the most formidable foes ever to take the battlefield.

Kakashi Hatake using his Dual Mangekyō Sharangan in Naruto: Shippuden.

Edo Rinnegan Madara single-handedly wiped out the Five Kage and toyed with them the entire time while doing it. His ability to summon multiple clones of himself and have them all use Susanoo is beyond diabolical. There’s no universe where Minato comes close to beating this version of Madara!

3Kakashi Hatake (Double Mangekyō Sharingan)

When Overpowered Meets Completely Busted

Kakashi Hatake likely loses to Minato, his former teacher, in pretty much every scenario except for one, and that’s when he received the Double Mangekyō Sharingan, placing him in the same category as the likes of Sage of Six Paths Mode Naruto and Sasuke.

Double Mangekyō Sharingan grants Kakashi the ability to extend the uses and potency of his Mangekyō Sharingan’s Kamui ability, as well as summon a Complete Body Susanoo, making him beyond broken. He is one of the strongest, if not the strongest, characters in Shippuden, given the short span he has access to this power.

Sasuke Uchiha after receiving his Rinnegan from the Sage of Six Paths in Naruto: Shippuden.

He can also summon a Sword or Shuriken when in the Susanoo, allowing him to utilize the Kamui’s abilities to create Kamui Shuriken, enabling him to warp whatever he hits with them into another dimension, adding to how tremendously overpowered he is!

2Sasuke Uchiha (Rinnegan)

Sage Of Six Paths Mode Clears With Ease

Speaking of Sage of Six Paths Mode Sasuke, he’s up next, as his Rinnegan makes him even stronger than he already was after awakening his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan upon transplanting his brother Itachi’s eyes into his own. He was already very strong then, for the record.

Prior to receiving the Rinnegan,Sasuke could use and shape Amaterasu to his liking, setting his targets ablaze with a black flame that can burn through anything and everything. He can also summon a Complete Body Susanoo, which can also wield swords or fire Amaterasu-infused arrows, making it tremendously potent.

With his Rinnegan, Sasuke can switch places with other objects in an instant, giving him a tremendous advantage in combat. He can also pull enemies toward himself or into a black sphere via Chibaku Tensei, and can even see invisible targets and absorb their Chakra. He is an absolute menace in this form and would demolish Minato!

1Naruto Uzumaki (Kurama Chakra Mode)

Father Versus Son, The Grand Finale

Lastly, we have Naruto Uzumaki himself, the son of Minato and the Seventh Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. And, while his Kurama Chakra Mode is considerably weaker than the other entrants on the list, this is just a fraction of his power and is plenty to take care of Minato.

It is said that Naruto surpassed Minato after he mastered Sage Mode and defeated Pain, which is before he learns how to enter Kurama Chakra Mode, which isn’t even close to what he’s capable of. While Kurama Chakra Mode 2 is guaranteed to defeat Minato, we think he could easily do it in this form as well.

Naruto is even faster than A, the Fourth Raikage, in this form, and has staggering amounts of power on top of that. While Naruto wouldn’t mop the floor with Minato like some of the others on this list in this form, he would still win easily. And he still has four forms after this, which is wild to think about. Naruto clears here, and deserves the number one spot, even if he is technically weaker than Sasuke, Kakashi, and Madara in this form!
