Summary

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredwas real after all.Announced and released earlier today, potentially millions of people are already revisiting Cyrodiil and getting a healthy heaping of nostalgia for their efforts. Among those people are also potentially the modding team for Skyblivion, the fan-made Oblivion remaster that has admittedly had the wind taken out of its sails a bit thanks to this release.

Thankfully, those behind Skyblivion have taken it in their stride, promising that the release ofthe official remaster hasn’t changed anything, and that Oblivion fans will be able toenjoy their take on a remaster/remake later this year. In fact, they could get some inspiration from the remaster, as Bethesda has taken care of every single member of the team with a rather wholesome gift.

Skyblivion’s Entire Modding Team Has Been Gifted Oblivion Remastered

Earlier today, the Skyblivion Twitter accountrevealed that to celebrate the release of Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has gifted the mod’s entire team free game keys as a show of generosity. They go on to thank Bethesda for its “continued support” for the project, and that the gift “means so much to us”. If you ever thought there was bad blood between Bethesda and the Skyblivion team, this has shut down those ideas pretty firmly.

It’s also nice to see a massive developer like Bethesda actively encouraging fan-made projects like Skyblivion, instead of shutting them down like the majority of other major publishers out there. Bethesda probably had a decent excuse to go after Skyblivion now we know Oblivion Remastered is a thing, but instead it’s chosen to support them instead.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about Oblivion Remastered itself, as it was confirmed earlier today thatthe game does not have official mod support. Of course, that’s never stopped modders from making things before, but it does mean making mods for the game will be more difficult, and that mods on consoles won’t be happening. You’ll probably have to wait a little whilebefore you get to run around Cyrodiil as Shrek.
