In a post shared to the PlayStation Blog, Sony attributed the price hike to “a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates,” before calling it a “tough decision.”

The changes to the Recommended Retail Price of the PS5 are as follows:

Standard PS5 — NZD $949.95

PS5 Digital Edition — NZD $859.95

The price of the PlayStation 5 Pro, which was released late last year, will not be changed, per the announcement.

Elsewhere, the Disc Drive will be getting a decrease in RRP. The new prices are as follows:

€79.99

£69.99

AUD $124.95

New Zealand

NZD $139.95

There won’t be much time to digest these new prices, as both the increases to the PS5 console and decreases to the disc drive accessory will go into effect tomorrow, April 14.

PlayStation Plus Will Also Be Getting A Price Increase

If Sunday’s announcement feels a bit like déjà vu, it’s not. On Friday,a similar announcement was made regarding PlayStation Plus, with more than 20 countries ultimately receiving a price increase.

So far, North American customers have not been included in Sunday’s console increases or Friday’s PlayStation Plus increases.
