Valda’s Spire of Secrets is a unique player pack, giving you tons of options to try to add more variety to your 5E campaigns. While there are only a few magic items within this supplement, they’re all fun, unique, and some are even funny.
They make perfect little additions to your currentDungeons & Dragonscampaign, and some of them are actually pretty useful. Here’s a look at every magic item in this player supplement ranked by just how powerful they can be.

5Ring Of Barrels
Capture Or Distraction, You Decide
They make perfect little additions to your current campaign, and some of them are actually pretty useful. Here’s a look at every magic item in this player supplement ranked by just how powerful they can be. Plan your escape and flee from your enemies, and drop some obstacles on your way out. The Ring of Barrels allows you to use this item adorning your finger, to take a magic action and summon empty barrels.
The ring has six charges, and you’re able to spend 1-3 at a time to summon empty barrels. Of course, you don’t have to use them as just a distraction. The barrels provide half cover, and you cansummon them in the space of a small or medium creature and trap them within it.The barrels have their own HP and AC; using them creatively will make the most of them.

4Memento Mori
A Deadly Letter
One of the more unique magic items in Valda’s Spire of Secrets, Memento Mori will be familiar to anyone who has seen Death Note. This magical item is a note that has the exact description of how a character will die, in complete detail. Using Chronomancy magic, the letter has specific descriptions of how the reader will die. However, the language can be cryptic or vague if you want to terrorize someone.
After reading the letter, the creature gets advantage on death-saving throws and will only die after failing five death-saving throws instead of the usual three. However, there’s a trick. Once the creature comes to the moment of death described in the Memento Mori letter, it will automatically die when it reaches zero hit points without making any death saving throws. This allows you to create some intense situations where players play into the moment of their death, then come to the realization that they don’t get death saves, as it will all be over. Once used, the letter becomes a normal letter.

3Frog Prince Statuette
Kiss A Commoner
This adorable little statuette of a frog prince already has a little kiss mark on its side. Everyone knows the old adage of kissing a frog to find a prince. Well, now in your D&D game, you may kiss a literal frog statue to summon someone. While you won’t necessarily get a prince, this item allows you to speak its command word and kiss it to transform it into a Commoner.
The humanoid can have the appearance you choose, and comes wearing Fine Clothes. It has a stat block of a Commoner with temporary hit points, and you get to choose its skill proficiencies. The magic item essentially uses the spell Mandy’s Feral Follower from Valda’s Spire of Secrets. The best part, the Commoner you summon will always retain the memories it had while it was summoned, despite the appearance you give it. Need a nicely dressed NPC to come to your aid with a memory of your previous iterations? While this may not be the most practical magic item for every situation, it’s a great item for roleplay. Who knows what you may get into with this little frog? Technically, you could create your own prince with the right rolls.

2Portable Cannonballs
Ball Bearings Are Quite Useful
As the name suggests, this magical item is essentially just portable cannonballs. This magic item allows you to speak the command word and turn regular Ball Bearings into full-sized ten-pound cannon balls. Any creature in the way of these cannon balls will need to make a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d10 bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The bag contains 20 iron balls that work as ball bearings, each weighing 1/4 of a pound and only being one inch in diameter. This is a great pouch to have on your person that can quickly become a game changer in the right situation.
The balls can also be used as sling bullets or firearm bullets, allowing you to deal a little more damage, with 2d12 instead of 2d10, plus whatever modifiers you have for the weapon used. It’s pretty tame for a magic item, but it’s one of the more useful items in several instances from this player supplement.

1Leonora’s Throne Of Indolence
Flying And Transportation Are Always Top Tier
Leonora’s Throne of Indolence is the best option in Valda’s Spire of Secrets. The throne is made of both oak and gold and can hold up to 400 pounds. Speaking the command words, you can ride the throne as it has a flying speed of 50 feet, and it can also hover in the air. If a gold inlaid throne that can hover you in the air and fly you around wasn’t enough, speaking a second command word will allow you to cast Unseen Servant. The servant can then conjure a spectral trumpet on top of all the normal things it can do, but it can use the trumpet to announce your arrival and departure as you see fit.
But wait, there’s more. The third command word allows you to create ten pounds of food and up to four bottles of wine, all of your choosing. Whatever you want to eat and drink is at your fingertips, really. The only catch here is that you’re the only person who can eat and drink the conjured food; anyone else who attempts will only taste stale food and become sick. Though it’ll mostly be useful in roleplay, and free flying transportation your party can have will be a boon worth attempting to get. With so many additives, it’s easy to see why this is the best magic item from Valda’s Spire of Secrets.
