Looking at these charts, Revenge of the Sith being beaten by Phantom Menace does start to make sense, despite the former being more critically successful. The first entry in a new trilogy has always performed better than its sequels, which is understandable, since fans would have waited years for Star Wars to return when it came to Phantom Menace and The Force Awakens.
