Alongside those reveals, the developers of Subnautica 2 have recently taken to the game’s Discord to answer a variety of questions from fans about the game. Some of the tidbits we’ve learned recently include the lack of any weapons, the fact that Leviathans are unkillable, and even a note about the sequel’s intended amount of story content.

Subnautica 2 Is Aiming For Around 15 Hours Of Story Content, But “Countless” Hours Of Gameplay

Don’t Worry, Subnautica 2 Is Still Going To Be Massive

As originally pointed out by Redditor ZookeepergameIll1399 on the Subnautica subreddit, the sequel’s developers were recently chatting about the game and responding to questions about it on Discord. One of the questions was fielded to Subnautica 2’s design lead, Anthony Gallegos, who was asked how long we can expect the game to be.

Gallegos seemingly said that Subnautica 2’s story content would be around 15 hours or so, which caused some worry from players who were expecting more. One fan even said that they wanted to see around 30 hours or so of story content and lore, which caused Gallegos to reply saying, “You gotta go play another if you want that”.

If the idea of Subnautica 2 only being 15 hours long worries you, don’t get too stressed, as Gallegos explained what he meant insome follow-ups, noting that he didn’t “commit” to 15 hours but that asking for 30 is “extreme”. Gallegos said that he thinks of story content as being different to the time spent on crafting and exploring and that players can still spend “countless hours” in Subnautica 2.

Story content is only one part of the Subnautica 2 experience. - Anthony Gallegos

To really drive his point home,Gallegos pointed out that the first Subnautica only had around six hours or so of ‘story content’and that “many, many hours more” of that was spent on other things. So don’t worry, as it seems like the devs are confident in how much content there’s going to be in Subnautica 2.
