Summary
Reliable gaming insider Jeff Grubb has shared his thoughts on this year’sSummer Game Fest, and revealed that he thinks that going to the event is going to “suck” due to a slimmer lineup of games.
We’re only a few months into 2025, but it’salready proven to be a massive and exciting year for gaming. From the initialannouncement and upcoming release of the Switch 2toGTA 6 finally getting its second trailer, there’s been plenty going on already, and it’s about to get even busier thanks to Summer Game Fest in two weeks.

Unlike the last few years, where we all had a pretty good idea of what might show up during the event, this year’sSummer Game Fest is a little bit more mysterious so far. There haven’t been any major leaks or insider reports on the lineup this year, but it turns out that there might be a good reason for the lack of big rumours and teases.
Don’t Expect Too Much From This Year’s Summer Game Fest
Jeff Grubb Has Heard Things Aren’t “Looking Super Awesome”
Earlier today,VGC shared the latest episode of VGC: The Video Game Podcast, where it chatted to reliable gaming insider and Giant Bomb host Jeff Grubb. Alongside talking about PlayStation’s potential plans for a State of Play (which is reportedly planned for June), Grubb alsoshared his thoughts on Summer Game Fest and what he expects from it.
Grubb starts by simply saying that he thinks Summer Game Fest “is going to suck”, before clarifying that he means the actual event itself where previews are held and not the live showcase which he doesn’t know too much about. Grubb says that he isn’tsure how many games are “going to be worth it"on the show floor, and that it’s going to be “slighter” than last year.
There are a few reasons for this bleak outlook, according to Grubb. The first is simply that foreign developers don’t want to travel to L.A. right now with everything going on,considering they could just wait until August and appear at Gamescom. The second is that many developers are simply missing the timeline for Summer Game Fest.
I think it’s going to be a pretty bad show. I don’t have insight into what SGF Live featuring Geoff Keighley as host is going to be like, maybe there’s some cool announcements in there, there could be. I don’t know how many games are actually going to be worth it on that show floor. - Jeff Grubb
Grubb hopes that he’s wrong and that the show exceeds expectations, but notes that everything he’s heard about it so far points to it not being “super awesome”. We’ll find out for sure in two weeks, but it’s worth keeping your hopes way down so you don’t end up too disappointed.
