Summary
It only took a couple of weeks forHollywood studios to start fighting over the movie rights for a Split Fiction adaptation. It seems things are moving along pretty quickly, as it’s now being reported that the movie version of Hazelight’s latest hit already has a director, scriptwriters, and even a very big name to presumably star in one of its two lead roles.
That’s according to Variety. Sources have told the site thatSydney Sweeney has been cast in the Split Fiction movie. If true, that means the film has its first actor before we even know which of the studios bidding for the rights to make it was successful. Variety also reportsJon M. Chu will direct the project, andRhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been brought on to write the script.

If you have playedSplit Fiction, then your mind will have likely gone to the same place as mine when figuring out who Sweeney will be playing. There aren’t exactly many roles to choose from, and it seems likely the Euphoria actress will play Zoe. Variety does note that its sources couldn’t confirm whether Sweeney will be playing Zoe or Mio, although if actors who look vaguely like the characters are the way whoever is casting for this movie is going, Zoe is the more logical pick.
It’s also possible Sweeney will play a new role made for the movie. There really aren’t many characters in the game.

The Split Fiction Movie Might Already Have Its Zoe
Who Could Play Mio?
While Sweeney is the big name that jumps out of this report, the Split Fiction adaptation’s director and scriptwriters are also notable names with impressive resumes. Chu directed last year’s Wicked and is currently working on its sequel, while writers Reese and Wernick wrote Deadpool & Wolverine together. Not just big credits on all three counts, but recent ones, hence them being top picks for this project.
All this news about a Split Fiction adaptation less than two months after the game launched likely has quite a few of you wondering what’s going on withthe It Takes Two movie we were promised. It has been three years since news broke revealing Hazelight’s 2021 Game of the Year would be getting a movie. Not only have we received zero updates since then, but now its Split Fiction equivalent has a lead, a director, and some scriptwriters, it has four more people officially attached to it than theIt Takes Twomovie.

That doesn’t mean the It Takes Two movie is dead, of course, nor does it mean we’ll be getting a Split Fiction film any time soon. Turning video games into movies is hard, something many have forgotten due to how many good ones there have been recently. We knew a lot about A Minecraft Movie, including the casting of Jason Momoa, years before it hit theaters. Even with Sweeney likely cast as Zoe, it could be a while before we see what a Split Fiction movie looks like, if at all.
