Summary

While most casualTekken 8fans are looking forwardto the Season 2 character pass, including the return of Anna Wiliams, along withnews that two more returning characters will find their way back into the game, the same can’t be said for hardcore fighting game fans.

That’s because a proposed change to Tekken’s gameplay had fans less than enthused. However, following backlash, that change has been scrapped.

Indeed, via the official Season 2 patch notes, a broken throw will no longer deal chip damage to the one breaking it up. In a Twitter post, game director Katsuhiro Harada confirmed as much, though noted that there might be a delay in implementing the change.

Originally, during a stream, it was revealed that chip damage would be implemented, a first for the series. Understandably, that would change the long-standing meta of the game, and fans were upset.

Shortly after, though, Harada asked in a Twitter post that fans first try things out for themselves before coming to conclusions. “So, we would really appreciate it if you could try it out after the update goes live —spend some time playing or competing in tournaments— and then share your feedback with us,“he wrote.

For one reason or another, that tune was quickly changed. As Harada noted on Twitter, he initiated an “urgent discussion” to deliberate on the changes. Then, shortly after, things were scrapped entirely, leaving the game as it was. Whether fans went about the response the right way is a discussion on its own, though, one thing is clear: the game is staying as it once was.
