Summary
Larian Studiosis no stranger to fan service; and the studio has once again proved they “know their audience” withBaldur’s Gate 3’s final animated short, released to celebrate the game’s eighth and final patch.
The animation casts the beloved party of Baldur’s Gate 3 in the role of gamers playing an online fantasy game. It begins with Astarion introducing the party with a sitcom-style opening, where every character has their own title: Gale (The Brain), Wyll (The Blade), Karlach (The Hothead), Shadowheart (The Princess) and LaeZel (????).
The Hothead
Karlach’s opening animation has garnered particular attention as it depicts the tiefling sunbathing, using her infernal engine to cook a sausage and two burger patties on her abdomen. I don’t need to tell you what shape a sausage and two circular patties makes, I’ll leave you ponder that yourself.
In a Reddit thread byToo-Many-Bees, they posted an image with the caption “The Baldur’s Gate 3 final patch animated short better not awaken anything in me” accompanied by the image of Karlach sunbathing. Considering some of the things that Karlach herself says in-game, none of these fan reactions are out-of-step with the character herself.
The end of the animation shows each of the characters in their casual attire playing the aforementioned online game. After having their loot stolen by the avatar of Larian head, Swen Vincke, the party resolves to go on “one more adventure.” It’s then revealed that Shadowheart and Karlach are roommates, a clip that’s sure to delight Karlach and Shadowheart shippers.
It’s unknown if we’re going to get any future animations, but considering Larian is moving on from Baldur’s Gate 3 to two new unannounced projects. It seems unlikely.
As for Patch 8, it’s officially live. The patch adds photo mode, full crossplay between platforms and a new subclass for each of the game’s classes. Larian has assured the community that Patch 8 is thefinal major patch for the game, and it seems the studio is serious this time.
