A Minecraft Movieis crammed full of memeable moments, and has been ever since Jack Black growled out the immortal line “I… am Steve” inthe very first trailer. Plenty of these recognise well known phrases or moments from Minecraft, either turned into memes by Black’s delivery, or deep cuts within the fandom the movie has dredged to the surface.
However, one moment wasn’t in the original script, but was added by star Jason Momoa himself. The Man Sandwich stunt with Momoa and Black was added at Momoa’s behest, clearly desperate to shove his face in awkward positions up against Jack Black’s body. “He’s not going to toot his own horn. I’mma toot it for you, bro,” Black said when revealing Momoa’s hand in the script.

Speaking toCollider(asspotted by Screen Rant), Momoa and Black confirmed that the Man Sandwich scene where the duo tangle themselves together to squeeze through a small gap was something Momoa came up with after reading the script, and they convinced director Jared Hess to add it. Momoa admits that the scene was less his idea though as it was directly inspired by one of his favourite classic SNL sketches, Ambiguously Gay Duo: Fortress of Privacy.
As well as highlighting that Momoa wrote the scene, Black was quick to shine a light on the stunt team involved too - Momoa specifically credits Jon Valera for the sequence. “Dude, when I read that in the script, I was like ‘We’re not doing that’,” Black said. “And by god, we did. I don’t know how. Thanks to your stunt team, that is top-notch, that you’ve worked with several times on several movies, right?”
In the sketch, which you can see above, two heroes fly uncomfortably close to each other through various gaps. The sketch is often compared to the homoeroticism of Top Gun, which Momoa also notes in the interview.
