Summary

TheDevil May Cryanimated show presented by Netflix has the demon hunter Dante showing off his skills, and it ended up being a great representation of the video game character. Lady, the other popular demon hunter of the series, is also one of the protagonists with plenty of fights to show off.

The first season of the show has a memorable fight in nearly every episode, but they don’t all rank the same when compared to one another. Here, we’ll rank all the fights and measure their spectacle, technique, and relevancy on the show.

10Lady Vs. Echidna

Episode 5

This is a layered fight, even if a short one, where Lady tricks Plasma into taking her form, prompting Echidna to attack her own ally. While a great moment for the Darkcom agent, is a fight that is over in a flash, giving Echidna a sudden exit from the show.

This fight is ranked lowest mostly due to the lack of excitement around it. It goes about how you’d expect, and as a scene it works perfectly fine, but as a fight, it is over before it even starts, unless you count Lady’s ascension through the White Rabbit’s base as part of the encounter.

9Dante Vs. Agni & Rudra

Episode 4

In a direct reference to Nero (particularly to how he appeared in Devil May Cry 4), Dante dispatches Agni just after awakening a portion of his demonic power. While it works great as a moment to symbolize Dante’s growth in power, as a fight it leaves a lot to be desired.

The same happens with Rudra, with an airborne fight that barely uses the strengths of such a setting. Rudra’s fight ends in an anticlimactic tone as well, since it is Lady who finishes him off; it’s a kill that makes sense in the context of the scene, but feels barely deserved.

8Lady Vs. All Main Demons

Episode 3

In a way, this moment shows with great effect how efficient Lady is, since she can hold her own against Plasma, Agni, Rudra, Echidna and Cavalier Angelo all fighting her at the same time. The issue with that is, of course, that it makes little sense, particularly considering how she’ll fare against those very same enemies later on in the show.

The moment is still one of the highlights of the show for fans of the games, since all of these demons showing up are a representation of all the love the series has for its source material. But as a fight, it would have only made sense if Lady had her whole crew backing her up to survive this ordeal.

7Darkcom Vs. Echidna & Cavalier Angelo

Lady seems to be able to hold her own against five demons attacking her at the same time, but her team seems to be unable to survive, let alone defeat, only two. Worst of all, Lady is also aiding her team, but Echidna and Cavalier Angelo make short work of the whole unit.

Granted, the demons had the element of surprise, so it stands to reason that they would emerge victorious. And narratively speaking, this is a pivotal moment in the show, with the White Rabbit having his much-awaited revenge against the unit that wronged him years ago.

6Dante Vs. Plasma

Episode 1

This is not only the first fight of the show, it also has a lot of unique moments that audiences expected to see more of. Specifically, we are talking about the use of guns by Dante (who lacks his iconic Ebony and Ivory) and the appearance of Vergil, who ended up being a disguised Plasma.

The fight itself, though, is one of the better ones in the show, particularly due to Plasma being a fully 2D character. The other demons are made in 3D, something that makes their movements less fluid than the other 2D characters they face.

5Dante Vs. All Main Demons

Dante showing off is always great, and there is nothing like a highway chase scene to show how stylish one can fight. In the case of Dante, he had a lot of moments here, particularly when he steals Agni & Rudra’s blades (albeit momentarily) and when he uses the bike he rides as a weapon.

It all culminates on a surprising explosion, with a Dante that may or may not be alive. Of course, we know that Dante can take any sort of punishment, but the show decided to blow up his neck to show this rather thanstabbing his stomach, as the video games tend to do.

4Lady Vs. White Rabbit’s Demons

Episode 7

Lady’s final solo fight comes when she goes to face the White Rabbit on her own, who has a sizable force of demons and Cavalier Angelo at his side. Yet it is here that we see the most game-accurate version of the demon hunter, since she has the Kalina Ann rocket launcher during the confrontation.

She barely uses it, although to great effect, managing to remove Cavalier Angelo from the fight in a single move and dispatching many demons. Sadly, she gets poisoned and out of commission, but she still showed just how effective she is at her job.

3Dante Vs. Cavalier Angelo

This fight starts off as a simple minion-slaughtering mission, but quickly transforms into a blade duel between Danteand Cavalier Angelo, the final big demon in the White Rabbit’s forces. Dante is still as capable as ever, referencing his many gauntlet weapons from the games during the fight and finishing it without needing his Devil Trigger.

The finishing move is what elevates this fight above most others, since Dante is able to deal with Cavalier Angelo’s armor in a creative way. He gets him stuck in a portal between Earth and Makai, shutting the portal down and slicing the head of the demon in half.

2Dante Vs. Mercenaries

Episode 2

The start of the show establishes Dante’s personality, showing that his journey here is closer to Devil May Cry 3 than any other game. The whole fight against the human mercenaries feels like an homage to the start of that game, pool table included.

At the end of the confrontation, we have a highly skilled Lady fight toe-to-toe with Dante, managing to capture him at the end, something unexpected considering how easily he dealt with the other hired guns. This makes the whole scene not only fun, but also a crucial part of character building and plot development.

1Lady & Dante Vs. The White Rabbit

Episode 8

The final fight of the show is, as you would expect, the best fight all around. The main reason for this is the teamwork present between our two protagonists, and how they have to use their unique skill sets to deal with this common foe.

Even though Dante has access to the Devil Trigger, Lady’s help is still highly relevant, making the fight feel earned for both sides. The fact that it ends withLady saying ‘Jackpot’is a great touch, making that key line one that closes the show even if Dante doesn’t deliver it.
