As you explore the twisting halls of the massive manor inBlue Prince, sometimes your day will come to an undignified end thanks to luck just not being in your favour. However, one of the best ways to pry fate into your hands is by using items.

These tools are found in a variety of different locations around the massive house - whether they’re bought, crafted, or just found lying around, they’re all worth picking up. Even so, not all of these items are created equal, and some are much more useful than others, so which should you be keeping an eye out for?

Metal Detector item pick up screen in Blue Prince.

9Metal Detector

Sold At The Commissary Or Found In Item Pickups

One of themost common issues in Blue Princeis running out of resources. It could be keys, coins, or gems, and if you’re lacking, your run only has so much longer before it peters out. However, if you have a trusty Metal Detector, you’ll have a much better chance of keeping your pockets full.

Once you’ve got one, it’ll ping whenever you’re near an item that can be picked up. Keys and coins, in particular, have a habit of fading into the background, so having the Metal Detector so you always know where they are is a significant helper and will save you from having to double back on yourself. It also raises the odds of these floor drops appearing, and it’s a handy crafting component, too.

Item Pickup

The further you get into Blue Prince, you’re probably aiming to be more and more strategic with your runs. Whether it’s a specific room you want to access, a handful of rooms that you need to draft next to each other, or just a specific placement for an exit, you just need luck on your side.

However, if none of the three drafting options are what you need, then you’ll want to have as many Ivory Dice available as possible. These rare pickups will let you re-roll your draft pool and give you three new options for your next room. You can upgrade certain rooms to make these dice drop more often, but even with this, they’re a valuable find you’ll want to use sparingly.

6Shovel

If you’ve been drafting your manor to have an abundance of green rooms, then you’ve likely noticed a handful of dirt patches littering each of them. These aren’t just there for show; they can be dug up using a Shovel.

Not only is this a great way to come across more resources for free, but digging can also provide you with some useful buffs. For example, if you’ve drafted a kennel, then every time you dig afterward, all the locked doors in the room will automatically unlock, a particularly useful power in the top half of the house where locked doors are incredibly common.

Magnifying Glass item pick up screen in Blue Prince.

5Magnifying Glass

Unlike most of the other items you can pick up in Blue Prince, the Magnifying Glass doesn’t have any obvious use that you can activate for a tactile buff or boost. Sure, it makes you feel more like a sleuthing detective, but it might just feel like a purely aesthetic tool.

As it turns out, there are plenty of details hidden in readable material and detailed pictures in Blue Prince that you simply aren’t able to see unless you’re using the Magnifying Glass. Whether it’s a scribbled-out words that can be seen through, a code hidden in the background of a photograph, or just a small print you’re able to’t read otherwise, the Magnifying Glass is often thesolution to a puzzlethat’s been hidden in plain sight.

Sleep Mask item pick up screen in Blue Prince.

4Sleep Mask

If you’ve managed to pick up enough gems, coins, and keys, your run is likely flourishing, and the manor will be filling out to help you reach the solution you’re after, but then you realize that you’re running low on steps, and before you know it the perfect run is snatched away from under you.

This can be avoided by drafting enough bedrooms to keep your step supply up, but if you want to make these extra steps go further, picking up aSleep Mask early onin your run is a great option. Every time you walk into a bedroom for the first time, you’ll get a bonus five steps, and with how many bedrooms are available, this buff can go a long way.

Chronograph item pick up screen in Blue Prince.

3Chronograph

Sold At The Showroom

If you come across the showroom in the earlier hours of Blue Prince, you’ll likely be astonished by how expensive some items being sold there can get. However, the later you get into the game, the more affordable some options will seem.

One that you’ll want to pick up, especially if you’re redrafting rooms pretty often, is the Chronograph. When you re-roll a room selection, sometimes your new options will be worse than the last batch, but this item lets you rewind time and pick from the last batch of options again. It also makes rooms that help your next run be drafted more often, a perfect buff if you’re planning ahead.

Lock Pick Kit item pick up screen in Blue Prince.

2Lock Pick Kit

Often Found In The Tool Shed Or Found In Item Pickups

Out of all the resources you need to reach the end in Blue Prince, the ones you’ll likely run through the quickest are keys, especially the further you get into the house. It only takes an unlucky chain of a few lock-heavy rooms to completely deplete your supply and leave you at an unceremonious dead end.

However, if you manage to find a Lock Pick Kit early on in your run, you’ll have a much better chance of conserving your keys until you really need them. Whenever you approach a locked door, you may simply use your lock pick kit to attempt to unlock the door, and it has a good enough chance of succeeding that you can save a good amount of potentially wasted keys.

Power Hammer item pick up screen in Blue Prince.

1Power Hammer

Crafted At The Workshop

The Sledgehammer is a pretty useful item that you’re able to find relatively often in Blue Prince. It lets you break the lock off trunks to save using a key on them. However, if you want to make it significantly more useful, then crafting it into a Power Hammer is a great option if you have the components and a drafted workshop.

Using a Broken Lever, Battery Pack, and, of course, a Sledgehammer, you’ll end up with the Power Hammer. Not only can it break brick walls to create permanent shortcuts, but it’s also used in some drafted rooms to unlock secrets and find extra resources for your run.
