There are a lot ofanimegenres, with some being a bit more niche than others. One specific type of anime that you may come across is Iyashikei. This refers to ‘healing’ anime; the show in question is packed with battles or conflict. Instead, it’s more relaxing and soothing.
Here, we are going to take a look at the best Iyashikei anime out there. If you need to unwind with something that looks great without being too stressful, each option here is sure to do the job. We’ve included a variety of subgenres, so you are bound to find something that resonates with you!
10Laid Back Camp
First up, we have Laid Back Camp. If you’ve ever found camping to be a relaxing and peaceful experience, then Laid Back Camp is right up your alley. This show follows a group of girls who love to camp, and that’s pretty much it!
Each camping excursion features gorgeous scenery, cute moments, and tasty food. There are even some educational elements in the show, providing some tips for next time you decide to go camping with a group of friends.
9Mushishi
Mushishi is a phenomenal anime that’s recommended for a variety of situations. The shoe follows Ginko, who is on a simple journey of learning more about the Mushi in the world. Overall, Mushishi is episodic, so you won’t find any grand or overarching plots.
Instead, you’ll get relaxing episodes that will leave you with a sense of peace after watching. Overall, this is a great option if you truly don’t want your show to be weighed down by a typical plot.
8Natsume’s Book Of Friends
Natsume’s Book Of Friendsis similar to Mushishi, in the sense that they are both supernatural Iyashikei anime. As expected, Natsume’s Book Of Friends follows Natsume, who has the ability to see yokai in the world.
After coming to have the Book of Friends (which originally belonged to his grandmother), Natsume sets out to free the captured Yokai. Though this does feature a ‘yokai of the week’ format, it’s incredibly well-written with beautiful and soothing animation. Just look at the sleepy cat pictured above!
7Encouragement Of Climb
Encouragement Of Climb is similar to Laid Back Camp, but instead of camping, this group of girls focuses on climbing. This show has virtually no conflict or drama; you’ll just see a friend group enjoy their favorite hobby.
The main character, Aoi Yukimura, starts off initially afraid of heights, but as the show progresses, you can watch her break out of her shell and truly enjoy each excursion. Our personal favorite is Kaede Saito, who is essentially a climbing expert.
6Flying Witch
Flying Witch involves the classic notion that once a witch reaches a certain age (in this case, 15), she will leave home to further her studies. The witch in questionhere is Makoto Kowata, who also happens to have an adorable black cat by her side.
Overall, Flying Witch blends together the slice-of-life genre with the quirks of being a witch in a way that will leave you feeling relaxed. What’s more, the show is filled with likable side characters!
5Bunny Drop
Bunny Drop is often just referred to by it’s Japanese name: Usagi Drop.
Next up, we have Bunny Drop. This is a slice-of-life animethat focuses on a 30-year-old man and a 6-year-old girl that he eventually comes to raise. While the two aren’t father and daughter, they form a little family unit that’s quite heartwarming.
Bunny Drop takes us through raising a child in a peaceful and sometimes comedic manner. It’s worth noting that the manga for this anime has an ending that many people dislike. As such, it’s possible to watch the anime only and be satisfied.
4Non Non Biyori
If cute girls doing cute things is your type of vibe, then get ready to watch Non Non Biyori. This is as relaxing as an anime can get! Rather than kids being forced to grow up, Non Non Biyori lets the main group of girls do what they do best; be young girls.
The rural setting of Non Non Biyori is quaint, charming, and idyllic enough to have you feeling as peaceful as can be. Thankfully, this anime has three full seasons and a movie to keep you satisfied.
3Adachi And Shimamura
Adachi And Shimamura is a Yuri anime, which means that the focus is on anintimate relationship between two girls. In terms of the actual relationship though, Adachi And Shimamura is quite innocent, as it focuses on the two girls' coming to terms with how they feel.
This is a beautiful anime about young love and how it can lead to some inner anxiety. It’s still an Iyashikei though, so you won’t see too much drama here. There is also an adorable astronaut character that makes an appearance, so you have that to look forward to.
2Aria The Animation
Aria is a bit different than some of the other anime on our list, especially since it doesn’t take place in the world as we know it today. Instead, Aria takes place on the planet Aqua, which used to be Mars. Though this sounds very sci-fi, Aria still has a rustic charm that really captures the Iyashikei spirit.
In this show, you’ll follow along with Akari Mizunashi, who is essentially a tour guide. Overall, you will find beautiful otherworldly environments that are still somehow familiar. Aria is definitely one of the most beafitul anime on this list, and you’ll definitely see the healing aspect of the Iyashikei genre.
1Barakamon
Last but not least, we have Barakamon. This anime follows Seishu Hands, who has been exiled to a rural setting by his father. The shift from Tokyo to the country setting proves to be quite sudden though, and he’ll need to learn to adapt.
Barakamon is a feel-good slice-of-life anime that will leave you feeling at peace, and maybe even yearning for a change of pace. What’s more, the show is funny while also maintaining its heartfelt vibes.
