Monoco has more Skills available than any other character inClair Obscur: Expedition 33, so it can be tricky to figure out exactly how best to set him up for success. He can do it all, but not all at once, so eventually you’ll have to choose what role in the party you’ll want him to fill.
As it turns out, there’s no better character in the game for quickly filling enemy Break Meters and stunning them, shattering their defenses and leaving them wide open for attack. Here’s how to make Monoco a certifiable barrier-breaker.

Best Weapon And Attributes For Monoco
Monoco has a couple of weapons that enhance his Break capabilities; the two main candidates are the Lightning-elemental Joyaro and Earth-elemental Urnaro. Of the two,Joyaro is the more effective, as it’s focused more on helping you Break enemies, while Urnaro is more about rewarding you when you do so.
Urnaro’s best Attributes areAgility and Defense, which combine to make Monoco very tanky. Once both of those are at their maximum rating of 99, you can make him even more implacable by putting extra points into Vitality, or boost his Critical Rate by increasing his Luck; both options are equally viable.

Urnaro, on the other hand, favorsVitality and Luck; if you choose it as your weapon, take Agility as the third Attribute to ensure that Monoco gets plenty of turns.
Urnaro Traits (At Level 20+)
Best Skills For Monoco
With Joyaro equipped,Monoco is guaranteed to get double Break Damage on the first Skill he uses, as well as its Mask bonus, since he’s going to be in Almighty at the start of every fight. That meansyou should open with the biggest, hardest-hitting Skill you have.
Since every character should be getting double turns by the end of the game thanks to theCheaterLumina (see below), you’re able to spend Monoco’s first turn making sure he as enough AP, then follow up immediately withCreation Void, which can only be obtained in a few locations like the Lumiere Gardens and the undersea caverns called Renoir’s Drafts.

Creation Void also gets bonus damage inCaster Mask, but won’t get the Break Damage bonus from Joyaro outside of Almighty.
While you’re waiting for the Almighty Mask to come around again, focus on dealing damage and building up enemy Break Meters.Grosse Tete WhackandChapelier Slashapply Defenseless and Mark, respectively, making them useful choices, whileMoissonneuse VendangeandDuallist Storm(which can be obtained at Endless Tower) both let Monoco Break foes whose meters have filled.
Monoco’s sixth slot is something of a wild card - Pelerin Heal is always a good bet, since you can never have too much healing!
Best Luminas For Monoco
Monoco should beaggressively geared toward attacking and Breaking foeswhile other characters support him and exploit the openings he creates. Be sure that he has the essentials, likeCheater, Painted Power,Dead Energy, andSweet Kill, then load him up with anything with the word “Break” in it.
Breaking Luminas
Breaker, Critical Break, Breaking Counter, andBreaking Shotsare all fairly inexpensive in terms of Lumina Points, and increase the amount of Break Damage that Monoco deals with his various attack types.Break Specialistreduces his base damage slightly, but increases his Break Damage, and only costs a single LP, making it a great choice as well.
Since many of Monoco’s Skills get expensive quickly, giving himCombo Attack and Breaking Attackis a sneaky way of Breaking foes without having to save up the AP necessary for Vendange or Storm.
Breaking BurnandFueling Breakaren’t strictly necessary, but they combo well with a lot of builds, especially if Monoco is paired with Maelle and/or Lune.
Damage Luminas
Break Damage is also a factor of actual damage, soboosting Monoco’s overall outputcan help tremendously. Even cheap Luminas likeAugmented CounterandAugmented First Strikecan go a long way when paired with the Breaking Luminas mentioned above - especially when that first strike is a Skill as powerful as Creation Void!
AP Luminas
Combo Attack and Cheater can help Monoco stay ahead of his AP needs, but it’s a good idea to add to his overall gain withEnergising Turn.Time Tint, andEnergising Stun. The latter is especially useful for Monoco, since he’s going to be Stunning enemies reliably anyway.
By the same token,Healing StunandStun Boostare worthwhile if you may afford them.
