Once you reach the Amphoreus planet while trailblazing inHonkai: Star Rail, it doesn’t take long for the trailblazer and Dan Heng to get caught in the middle of chaos. As the story unfolds, you get to meet various Chrysos Heir and other friendly characters to help you on your journey.
Some of these characters also get released as playable units, just like Mydei during the second half of the Version 3.1 update. His kit goes quite well with his personality in the story, and here’s everything you need to know while building him.
Apocalyptic Shadow Rating
S Tier
Being a part of the strong Chrysos Heir organization in Amphoreus, Mydei fulfills hisrole as a main DPS,dealing his highest damage to enemies with Imaginary weakness. The unique part about him is that even if you’re doing manual battle, Mydei will still be on auto-battle for the entirety of your combat.
While this might not sound great on paper, it still feels satisfying to play since you canmake Mydei a lot more efficient by building him correctlyand putting him with the right team members. However, before you start upgrading his light cones and relics, you first need to understand his kit:
Vow of Voyage
Basic Attack
Deals Imaginary DMG to one target enemy. You’ll never use this ability in combat.
Deaths are Legion, Regrets are None
Normal Skill
Consumes 50 percent of Mydei’s HP todeal damage to three adjacent enemies, with the main target taking the highest damage.
Throne of Bones
Ultimate
Deals damage to three adjacent enemies while restoring Mydei’s HP andtaunting the attacked enemies for two turns. He also gains 20 charge.
Furthermore, the next Final Skillmentioned below prioritizes the main target of this skill, so it also works as a way to steer Mydei’s auto-battle.
Blood for Blood
Talent
For each 1% of Mydei’s HP lost, he gets 1 charge, and he enters the Vendetta state upon entering 100 charge, which restores his HP and increases it by 50% while reducing the DEF to 0.
Mydei can hold up to 200 charge. During the Vendetta state, he automaticallyuses the Second Skill below on his turn.
When he gets 150 charge in the Vendetta state, he immediatelytakes a turn and uses the Final Skill, consuming all charge.
If Mydei takes a fatal blow during Vendetta, herevives himself up to 50 percent HPbut the estate ends.
Kingslayer Be King
Second Skill
Consumes 35 percent of Mydei’s HP while dealinghigher damage to three adjacent targetsthan his Normal Skill.
Godslayer Be God
Final Skill
Consumes 150 charge and takes immediate action to dealeven higher damage to three adjacent enemies, making this the biggest nuke in his kit.
Cage of Broken Lance
Technique
Pulls enemies within an area together and applies Daze for ten seconds. Starting a battle with Dazed enemies deals Imaginary DMG to all of them while Mydei taunts them and gets 50 charge.
Earth and Water
Bonus Ability
Three times in each battle, Mydeidoesn’t exit the vendetta stateeven after taking a fatal blow.
Bloodied Chiton
Every 100 HP above 4,000 gives Mydeian extra Crit Rate, charge accumulation from enemy damage, and incoming healing increase.
This caps at 8,000 HP,giving him a 48% Crit Rate, 100% extra charge accumulation from enemy attacks, and 30% increased incoming healing.
If youdon’t have enough HP to be consumedby any of the above skills, Mydei’s HP will be reduced to one.
As you may see,Mydei is quite a self-sufficient unit to an extent. He can heal himself while even reviving himself up to three times without any downsides. He also gets a massive Crit Rate boost from his kit, but this does make it a little difficult to get his proper relic stats (more on this below).
Mydei’s Eidolons, Explained
Apart from the basic abilities in Mydei’s kit, you can get various Eidolons by pulling hisduplicates to increase his damage massively. Here’s what each Eidolon does:
Best Builds For Mydei
While building Mydei, the main things you have to choose are the light cones, relics, and planar ornaments.Each light cone has a special passive, and you’d want to pick the one that suits Mydei. Similarly, you may havespecial bonuses with relics and planar ornamentswhen you have two or four pieces from the same set.
It’ll come as no surprise that Mydei’sbest light cone is Flame of Blood, Blaze My Path, which is his signature. His best relics and planar ornaments areScholar Lost in Erudition and Bone Collection’s Serene Demesnerespectively. However, you have a bunch of other choices if you don’t have these available yet:
Best Mydei Light Cones
Flames of Blood, Blaze My Path
Mydei’s signature light cone gives him extra Max HP and incoming healing while also consuming his HP while using his Skill or Ultimate. Thisdirectly gives him extra charge based on your Refinement levels.
Furthermore,his damage is increased while using these abilities. If the consumed HP from the light cone is more than 533, this damage boost is doubled.
The Unreachable Side
This light cone is the second-best choice for Mydei due to itsCrit Rate, Max HP, and increased DMG on losing HPby any means. However, when this is equipped, over-critting on Mydei becomes a problem.
Flames Afar
Mydei normally consumes more than 25 percent of his HP with his abilities,which triggers the effect of this light cone, healing him while increasing his DMG for two turns.
Though you can only trigger this once every three turns.
Ninja Record: Sound Hunt
This is a great F2P-friendly light cone thatincreases Mydei’s HP and Crit DMGupon any change in his HP.
Collapsing Sky
Finally, if you don’t have any other options, you can use this three-star light cone atmaximum refinement to get a 40 percent DMG boostto Mydei’s Skill.
Best Mydei Relics
Scholar Lost in Erudition
This serves as the best relic set for Mydei’s build as it gives him a decent 8% Crit Rate whileincreasing his Skill and Ultimate DMG by 20 percent, which are both the main damage sources for Mydei.
His Skill DMG can furtherincrease by 25 percent after using his Ultimate. While using this set, you’d want his Final Skill to be used right after the Ultimate.
Longevous Disciple
If you don’t want to minmax Mydei’s kit by using the Ultimate at the right time for the above set, you can instead use this one to get an HP boost,with some Crit boost upon losing HP.
Wastelander of Banditry Desert
Finally, if you’re early in the game, you’re able to use this set to increase Mydei’s DMG by a decent amount. However,you’ll have to use a debuffer and break the enemy’s Weakness with the Imaginary elementto get the most from this.
Best Mydei Planar Ornaments
Bone Collection’s Serene Demesne
This serves as the best ornament set while building Mydei because it increases his HPwhile giving him a 28 percent Crit DMG boost, and you don’t have to do anything special for it.
Sigonia, the Unclaimed Desolation
Starting with a small four percent Crit Rate boost, this set can give Mydei up to 40 percent Crit DMG upon defeating ten enemies. It’sonly good if you’re using him in Pure Fiction.
Rutilant Arena
Finally, if you’re in the early game, you may use this set togive Mydei a decent Crit Rate and Skill DMG boost.
Sub-Stat priority
HP Percent
Crit DMG > Crit Rate > SPD
Since Mydei already gets a 48 percent Crit Rate base kit, andyou can get some more from his relic special bonuses, it becomes a low priority.
If you’re using teammembers like Sunday or Remembrance Trailblazerwith him,you won’t need any Crit Rate rolls at all.
Mydei Trace Priority
After reading his kit explanation above, you can likely already tell that Mydei’s Skill is thehighest upgrade priority as it has the multiplier for all three modes. You’d want to take this to at least level eight before focusing on any other ability. After the Skill, you can start upgrading Mydei’s Ultimate.
If you want to build Mydei efficiently, it’s still important to upgrade his Talent to at least level eight so that he canbenefit from the HP gain when entering vendetta, but it’s not needed to go further. You can also completely ignore his Basic Attack as you’ll never use it.
For Mydei’s bonus abilities, you’d want to upgrade them in this order:Bloodied Chiton > Thirty Tyrants > Earth and Water.
Is Mydei Worth Pulling?
There’s no denying the fact that Mydei is one of the strongest DPS characters in Honkai: Star Rail during his release, but he’s also placed right before Castorice’s or Anaxa’s release,two of the most anticipated characters from Amphoreus. Still, in his current state, Mydei is worth pulling from a meta standpoint.
Though it’s also important to mention that HoYoverse tends to power-creep DPS characters quite fast, which means the next five-star Imaginary DPS might already be better than Mydei. Moreover, if you’re planning to go for his Eidolons,the second one is a good stopping pointbut you’d want his light cone before going for them.
At the end of the day,you’d only want to pull for the characters that you likebecause Honkai: Star Rail’s meta changes quickly.
