Summary

TheHalogames are amongthe most influential Xbox titles ever. Therefore, they’re also among the most famous games of their generation. In fact, people who don’t even play games have heard of Halo.

This level of fame makes it the perfect series for other games to reference. After all, if you’re going to include a nod to another game, it’s good to choose one that people are very likely to know. Some poke fun at the series, while others are tributes to the FPS titles. Either way, these are the best references to the Halo series.

8Not A Natural Cave Formation

Gears Of War 2

One of the most famous quotes in the Halo series comes from Cortana in the first game when she points out that a cave made out of metal and stone isn’t a ‘natural formation.’

This line is referenced in Gears of War 2 when Dominic Santiago makes the exact same comment about an area they’re entering. Dom is clearly joking when he says it, so the line doesn’t feel out of place, even if you don’t know the reference.

7Halo Control Scheme

Borderlands

Like most iconic FPS games, Halo has a distinct control scheme. Because the series is so popular, other FPS titles also include Halo’s control scheme as an option you can switch to, as it may be familiar to players.

Borderlands is one of the games that does this. What’s special about this title is that it gives a unique name to the Halo-inspired controller preset. The game calls it “angelic,” which is a subtle reference to the name of the series.

Duke Nukem Forever

One of the most recognizable things about Master Chief is his green Spartan armor. It’s protective and makes him look cool. Someone who isn’t a fan is Duke Nukem, as shown in Duke Nukem Forever.

Early in this game, he’s offered some green power armor that looks a lot like what Master Chief wears. He rejects it, though, saying that “power armor is for p******.” The response is so outrageous that it’s pretty funny.

5Familiar-Looking Building

Destiny

Famously, Bungie was the original developer of the Halo series before 343 Industries took over. Bungie then went on to develop the Destiny games, which contain plenty of references to Halo.

Among the best, though, can be found on Mars in the original Destiny, as the game is one of manythat allow you to visit the famous planet. Once there, you can find a building that is shaped like Master Chief’s helmet.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The soundtrack plays an essential role in the Halo games. It helps create the game’s atmosphere and sometimes makes things feel more epic. Well, it can also be used to make Counter-Strike Global Offensive more epic.

This is because if you play The Master Chief Collection on Steam enough, then you unlock the Master Chief Collection Music Kit in Counter-Strike. Therefore, you can replace the game’s default music with some Halo tunes.

If you beat everyone’s story in Dead or Alive 4, you unlock a new character called Nicole-458. She is a Halo Spartan wearing the same armor as Master Chief, but she’s an original character.

Along with her, you get a new stage to fight on called Nassau Station, which looks like a level from Halo. Of course, this wasn’t just a reference that the developers threw in. They worked with Microsoft to include the character and stage.

2Space Rangers TV Show

Grand Theft Auto 4 And Grand Theft Auto 5

you’re able to watch a show called Republican Space Rangers on television in Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5. It’s an animated series that pokes fun at plenty of different things. This includes Halo, as the characters are wearing green power armor that looks very similar to what Master Chief wears.

It isn’t the sort of reference that Halo developers probably want to see, as the fictional show is very vulgar and doesn’t exactly showcase space marines in a good light. That said, it doesn’t feel like Halo is the main thing getting made fun of.

1Drivable Warthog

Forza Series

The Warthog is the most recognizable vehicle in the Halo series. So, it only makes sense that it would feature in a true racing game at some point.

Well, it has featured in several of them, as the Warthog has appeared in a few ofthe best Forza games. This means you can drive the iconic vehicle without worrying about the Covenant or enemy players. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with the heavy machine gun on the back, but other than that, it looks like it has been taken straight from the Halo games.
