Summary

The First Descendantplayers are no strangers to controversies and annoyances. When the game launched, not a week would go by without another frustration cropping up. Fromimpossible-to-unlock charactersto"inflated" seasonal challenges, they’ve seen it all.

The latest issue plaguing the community might be the most egregious of all, though, as in a recent update, dozens of unique character voice lines were removed without warning and were replaced with generic dialogue. As you can imagine, players aren’t happy.

The First Descendant Replaces Unique Dialogue With Generic Phrases

Reports of the voice line removal first started to surface on The First Descendant’ssubredditearlier today, as players noted that unique dialogue when reviving other Descendants had been replaced.

“The devs removed personalized voice lines when reviving Descendants. For example, some descendants would tell Bunny to slow down. Their personalities or elements would be referenced in some way. I think this gave everyone a lot more character, instead now we get generic voice lines no matter who you’re reviving,” saidNoah-x3.

Noah’s feelings were shared by others in The First Descendant’s community, with Detpowellsaying, “I miss it so much. It was very rare to actually see descendant personalities outside of cutscenes, and now there is none. It’s also rare to see some descendants in missions, so getting to hear their lines was even cooler. We’ll never know how Keelan and Esiemo would interact now. Or how Serena would react to Jayber.”

The overriding theory among players is that it became too difficult or expensive for Nexon to add and incorporate new lines every time they released a new Descendant, so they retconned all the previous ones for balance.

This isn’t the first time in recent weeks that voice work has been an issue in a major live service title. Last month, two Zenless Zone Zero voice actors were hastily recastdue to the fact that they were unwilling to work during the SAG-AFTRA strike.
