Summary

Split Fictionpivots between futuristic, dystopian sci-fi worlds to magical fantasy kingdoms, as writers Mio and Zoe aim to find glitches in each of their stories, wanting to escape the machine from stealing their ideas. However, finding these glitches isn’t so easy, as there are a string of puzzles of varying difficulty you will have to get through.

Not only will you find these throughout the eight main chapters in the story, but in the side stories as well. These super-hard puzzles will definitely test your level of teamwork, timing and critical thinking to get ahead together.

Mio and Zoe work together to distract the sand shark.

8Crossing The Sand Sea

Side Story: The Legend Of The Sandfish

The first side story in Split Fiction has Mio and Zoe navigate through the Sand Sea, which is teeming with carnivorous sand sharks. While you’re traversing the pathways that will lead you to the portal out of the side story, you’ll encounter a particularly challenging puzzle.

There are several towers with levers on them dotted around the wide expanse of sand, with a sand shark swimming around it. To cross, Mio and Zoe have to take turns yanking the lever, which will produce loud, thumping noises to distract the sand shark to allow the other to pass to the next tower.

Zoe holds onto a pole as Mio drags her across the water.

Although it sounds simple to do until you reach the other side, the problem is that wading through the sand slows Mio and Zoe down a lot, so it might take you and your partner a couple of tries to get the timing right.

7Getting Past Deadly Flowers

The Underlands

Although the Underlands is, without a doubt, beautiful some of its puzzles are a test of patience. At some point on your travels, the two of you are required to cross a small lake. Mio can traverse this lake in her fish-salamander hybrid form, but Zoe is left hanging onto a pole to stop the piranhas from eating her.

While Mio is dragging Zoe to their destination, there will be several deadly flowers that stand in their way. The first set is easy enough to get through, but it’s the second set that’ll give you trouble. Zoe is forced to shift into her tree form to interact with the green plant to force the wall of flowers to recede. Now you only have a limited time for Zoe to get back on the pole while Mio lugs her across the water as fast as her little fins could take her.

Mio and Zoe steps on a platform.

6Captcha Mini-Game

Neon Revenge

At this point, the last puzzle you expect to solve is picking the correct tiles for a captcha mini-game. But that’s exactly what happens during the motorcycle chase sequence in the first chapter of the game. While Mio is steering the motorcycle away from the authorities, Zoe is in charge of completing the mini-game to stop the vehicle from self-detonating.

Although controlling the motorcycle is difficult enough, Zoe’s challenge is much harder. Of course, captcha authentication is very simple, but not only are you in a race against time, the cursor is very finicky, and you need to remain calm at all times. However, this is undoubtedly the funniest and most unconventional puzzle ever created for a video game.

Mio and Zoe solve the cube puzzle in the Halls of Ice.

5Erecting The Shields In Time

Side Story: Collapsing Star

The last side story in the Underlands is one where Mio and Zoe are dropped in a world with a dying sun. As it is about to go supernova, the sun will regularly emit solar flares that will kill you if you don’t take cover in time. After parkouring your way through several platforms, there’ll be a series of circular platforms with buttons at the top.

These buttons will all need to be pressed down quickly to form a shield to protect you from the flares. There are three sets of these to get through, each with more platforms and buttons to press within a set time. What’s more, the flares have not only gotten stronger, but the gap between one flare and the next has gotten shorter. So, moving as quickly as possible is the main priority.

The red and blue dragons make their way across the ramp.

4The Cube Puzzle

Halls Of Ice

As soon as you manage to open the doors to theIce King’spalace, you’ll immediately be confronted with a traditional puzzle that’s been seen countless times before. The objective is to move the cube onto the green tile, but that’s easier said than done. The cube can only move in one direction and is only stopped by Zoe yanking up another tile using hervine ability.

This puzzle requires you to shift the cube around until it’s positioned in the middle row. In most cases (if you haven’t given up and consulted a tutorial yet), you’ll end up mindlessly shoving the cube around until the solution is right in front of you to get to the next area.

Zoe navigates the laser maze.

3The Problem With The Doors

Final Dawn: Factory Exterior

The Final Dawn chapter sees Mio and Zoe traverse a factory to stop a toxin from being released. There are multiple difficult puzzles to get through, but the solution for this one is not so clear at first, leaving you scratching your head until you see it.

Mio and Zoe end up on opposing sides of the room, unable to reach each other until they get past the force field in front of them. Unfortunately, each force field is the opposite colour to the one Mio and Zoe are armed with.

The key is to use the conveyor belt above them, which transports an endless stream of boxes. Zoe will have to shoot a blue grenade at one of the boxes and Mio will have to clear a pathway, and when the time is right, blast a hole through the blue force field on Mio’s side. If you’re left stumped at first on this one, then we don’t blame you.

2Dragon Ramp

Dragon Realm

Although you may be enchanted by the Dragon Realm, this particular puzzle may take the shine off somewhat. To reach another of the spirits of the fallen dragons, you’ll need to ram a golden ball through two sets of doors. However, to do that, you’ll need Mio’s dragon to spew acid into the mouths of several dragon statues positioned nearby.

However, not only do you need to aim quickly and accurately for the acid and ramming the ball, but there’s only a set time before the ramp trembles and takes you down with it. What’s more, the next stage is even more complex than the last one, and you’ll need perfect timing and all the patience in the world to tackle this one.

1Laser Maze

Isolation

In the sixth chapter, we are taken into Mio’s subconscious, which mirrors a futuristic, maximum-security prison where a mysterious inmate is locked away. However, as you approach the vault where this strange prisoner is kept, you’ll find a maze that’s riddled with lasers.

While Mio hacks into a drone that allows Zoe to see the lasers, it’s up to our fantasy fanatic to navigate the maze herself. Although the first set is easily done with Mio’s help, Zoe needs to swing to the other side, but even the grapple point has lasers attached to it. This maze is puts your timing, teamwork and communication to the test, as some lasers are prone to changing direction.
