The Last of Us Part 2 is generally considered to be one of the greatest games of all time(as long as you’re able to get over what happens in its first few hours), but that’s not to say that it’s without fault. Its campaign can feel alittleoverlong and the message about ending the cycle of violence is a little overwrought, butone that players have focused on over the past few years is surprisingly minor.
That issue has to do with the optional skins thatplayers can equip Ellie and Abby with once they’ve beaten the main game in Remastered. Both characters have a lot of customisation options, but there’s one glaring omission that’s actually featured in the game briefly and would have made sense to include - Joel’s jacket.

Who Needs The Intergalactic Fit?
Towards the end of The Last of Us Part 2, we briefly see Ellie put on Joel’s jacket as she’spacking to leave Dina and JJ to hunt Abby down one last time. The cutscene is brief, and once Ellie leaves for Santa Barbara, we never see her wear the jacket again due to the scorching hot weather of Santa Barbara.
You’d think that Naughty Dog would include the skin as an optional unlockable in Part 2 Remastered considering Ellie is already shown wearing it at one point in the game, but that strangely wasn’t the case at all.Fans have been annoyed about it ever since Part 2 Remastered launched and added unlockable skins, but one modder has taken matters into their own hands now the game has released on PC.
That modder is Nexus Mods creator Gaunt75, who recently released a mod simply titled “Joel’s jacket Ellie skin”. As the name implies, the mod gives Ellie a skin that lets her wear Joel’s jacket whenever she wants as a replacement for the Santa Barbara skin that exists in the game currently.
If Joel’s jacket isn’t enough for you, then you’ll be happy to know thatthere’s also a mod that lets you outright play as Joel instead of Ellie.
It’s a simple mod that does exactly what you’d expect, but it is one of Ellie’s best looks in The Last of Us Part 2 and a great way of honouring Joel’s memory, so it’s a worthwhile download all the same.
