Wilds Of Eldraine: Enchanting Tales - Regular Printing
We’ll see another copy of Smothering Tithe come from the Wilds of Eldraine: Enchanting Tales Bonus Sheet towards the end of this list, but this card, featuring artwork from illustrator Shafer Brown, has an entirely different feel and look.
The regular Enchanting Tales cards have a fancy border, text box, and a storybook artwork style to match the fairy tale aesthetic of the plane. Here we see a diminutive fella sitting at a spinning wheel twisting some flax into yarn, though there seems to be a body or two tossed in there for good measure.

Double Masters 2022 - Regular Printing
Sitting at four mana, a Smothering Tithe can start harassing the table as early as your second turn, most of the time,so long as you lead with a Sol Ringand don’t miss any land drops. Even if one player isn’t able to pay the two mana to stop you from getting a Treasure token, it places you ahead of your opponents mana-wise.
Smothering Tithe was first printed back in 2019’s Ravnica Allegiance, where it quickly became a popular Commander staple. The Double Masters printing was the first reprint the card would receive several years later, helping to inject a few more copies into the market, though not doing much to reduce the card’s price.

Commander Masters - Regular Printing
One of the more interesting Masters sets to come from Wizards of the Coast, Commander Masters was focused on all reprints and for drafting Commander decks using 16-card packs and with modified rules.
Along with the compilation set was a reprint of Smothering Tithe. There wasn’t anything particularly special or new about the printing, at least for this one. The set included an alternate art, which we’ll see in a minute,e and an etched foil copy, but oddly, the non-foil printing comes in higher than the etched one.

Double Masters 2022 - Etched Foil
Marking the first time that Smothering Tithe got a special printing outside the regular traditional foil copies that could be found in Ravnica Allegiance, the Double Masters printing gave players the chance to hunt down an etched foil iteration of the card.
Etched foils have a distinct glittery effect to them, which helps them stand out. They also tend to looka little darker than other foil types, but it just helps to accent the foiling process. There’s only around a two-dollar difference between the regular printing and the etched foil printing for the Double Masters 2022 versions, so if you don’t mind paying a little extra, it can help upgrade your deck.

Double Masters 2022 - Borderless
The last of the Double Masters 2022 iterations of Smothering Tithe, the borderless printing takes a different approach to the card, where instead of the horror of vomiting up coins, it shows a decrepit and gnarled hand greedily scraping coins over the face of a screaming person.
You might not have noticed that face since the text box covers up the face, but if you look closely at the box with the card typing and set symbol, you can see a row of teeth and an open mouth. If you move down a bit on the card, you can find the person’s eyes behind the flavor text, though each eye is covered by a coin.

Commander Masters - Borderless
Another borderless printing of Smothering Tithe, the Commander Masters version is a less gruesome depiction of overwhelming wealth, with lots of coins flying all over the place and no bodies or people in pain which is nice for a change.
Curiously, the flavor text for this card is either a reference to the Smash Mouth lyric from the song All Star, changing the line “And all that glitters is gold” to “All that glitters is yours.” The flavor text could also be a reference to a line from The Lord of The Rings in an unnamed poem commonly referred to as Bilbo’s riddle of Strider. It could also just be a play on the common proverb that inspired both these references.

Judge Gift Card - Foil
Often known as judge promos, Judge Gift cards are special cards given to judges as thanks for monitoring and mediating Magic: The Gathering tournaments. These cards are always foil and will feature new artwork and a special expansion symbol of Archie the Owl.
The Smothering Tithe artwork for this printing comes from illustrator Aurore Folny and features a return to the crushing terror of overwhelming wealth, with a literal wave of coins cresting behind them. It even comes with an ironic flavor text warning you to heed the words of witches very carefully before diving into a horde of gold.
3Smothering Tithe - $112.96
Wilds of Eldraine brought with it a bonus sheet full of all sorts of incredibly powerful enchantments, along with some brand-new artwork. A good chunk of them, 20 of the 63 cards, got special anime artwork treatments illustrated by different Japanese artists.
This Smothering Tithe illustration from Daisuke Tatsuma takes a different approach with its design, with a prissy blue-blooded woman surrounded by gifts and party food, seemingly laughing at another character’s despair. It’s a very silly card take on the card, playing into anime tropes perfectly.
2Smothering Tithe - $384.77
Secret Lair Drop - Traditional Foil
From the vaults of the Secret Lair comes this Smothering Tithe, a special hidden card that was tucked away in thethree SpongeBob SquarePants Secret Lair drops. No one knew what the secret cards were going to be until packages started to arrive, but the anticipation was well worth the wait.
Mr. Krabs hanging out with his piles of cast makes for the perfect picture of egregious wealth, especially given his all-consuming greed over the 26 years since the show’s debut. While the number of copies of this printing of Smothering Tithe is unknown, it is likely incredibly low, so don’t expect the price to go down anytime soon.

Wilds Of Eldraine: Enchanting Tales - Confetti Foil
It is no surprise that Daiskuke Tatsuma’s Smothering Tithe from the Wilds of Eldraine: Enchanting Tales is taking the top slot here, especially with the exclusive confetti foiling covering the card. The confetti foil is a speckled pattern that covers each card and has an incredibly low pull rate from packs.
Since Wilds of Eldraine has shifted out of rotation and there are no more new cards being printed, the availability of these cards has plummeted, so the price is only going to climb in price as we get further away from this card’s debut date.
