Horror gameshave been around for decades, with new ones coming out each year. Still, as time passes, many age and eventually become more limited, especially if you are looking to pick up a brand-new copy. Which horror games are the rarest though?
Here, we are going to take a look at the rarest horror games out there, as well as how much they are worth. This list will not consider video game emulation, as this can make previously-rare games more accessible. We’ll just be going over original copies that are now hard to find, and how much they typically sell for.

In general, older games sell for more. As such, it’s impossible to include every expensive horror game on this list. If one of your favorites is missing, don’t worry!
Never heard of Silent Hills PT? Technically, it’s not a real game. PT stands for playable teaser, so this is the teaser for the canceled game Silent Hills, which was supposed to come out around 2014. Interestingly, this teaser never had a physical release.

Yes, this game was going to feature Norman Reedus as the protagonist.
Instead, you may find people selling PS4s with Silent Hills PT. Essentially, you are buying an old and used PS4 with one game on it, but the prices for this on eBay range from $300 to $800, depending on the quality of the console.

Obscure can currently be played on Steam for less than $10, butthe original PlayStation 2physical edition is incredibly rare. If you are looking to buy this game in near-perfect condition, you are looking at around $300. We found a listing that still went for $313 even though it didn’t include a manual.
Although Obscure was remastered for Steam, it’s not quite the same. For example, music from the band Sum 41 was removed, as the rights were lost. Interestingly, when Obscure first came out, it just received average reviews.

Next up, we have Rule of Rose. This is a psychological horror game from 2006 that was a bit controversial when it first came out. At launch, Rule of Rose was banned in both the UK and Australia due to claims of excessive violence and brutality.
Now, if you want to get a copy of Rule of Rose, you may find it going for upwards of $500. As usual, sealed copies can be sold for way more. We found a sealed version on eBay for $750. As with Obscure, this game just has mixed reviews due to the clunky gameplay.

5The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1983)
In 1974, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out in theaters. Nearly a decade later, a video game version released for the Atari 2600. In this game, you play as Leatherface (the villain). By today’s standards of horror video games, this wasn’t anything too scary. In fact, gameplay of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre looks anything but scary.
Still, this was new at the time and caused controversy. Now, you may find this Atari cartridge selling for a few hundred dollars. We found a cartridge-only listing for $399.99, and an autographed version going for a whopping $3,500.

4Resident Evil: Gaiden
Resident Evil: Gaidenisn’t your typical Resident Evil game. This game launched in 2001 for the Game Boy Color, and utilizes a classic top-down perspective that was new to the franchise. So, how does it fit into the rest of Resident Evil?
Well, it doesn’t. Resident Evil: Gaiden is not canon to the story, and seems to exist on its own. If you are looking to play this Game Boy Color game, you can expect to pay around $100 to $200 depending on condition. Many people seem to sell loose versions of Resident Evil: Gaiden, but it can still go for $100 like this.

Haunting Ground is a 2005 horror game where the main goal is to explore and escape a castle as Fiona Belli. The game has often been compared to Clock Tower, which is another Capcom franchise that is filled with rare and expensive games.
If you want to experience Haunting Ground for yourself on the PlayStation 2, you will need to spend anywhere from $300 to $500, but if you want the game in pristine condition, it can be a few hundred more. We find the panic feature of Haunting Ground interesting; when Fiona panics, you won’t be able to open the menu and she will move on her own.

As mentioned earlier, Clock Tower and Haunting Ground go hand-in-hand. Within the Clock Tower franchise, the first one tends to be the most expensive. Launching in 1997 for the original PlayStation (in North America), copies go for around $100 to $300.
Remember the panic feature we mentioned for Haunting Ground? This mechanic came straight from Clock Tower, as the main character (Jennifer) can enter panic mode depending on her health. Clock Tower came out during a time when worldwide releases weren’t common. Clock Tower 1 originally launched in Japan (1995), but in 1997, Clock Tower 2 came out. Outside of Japan though, this was just called Clock Tower.

Kuon is yet another pricey horror game originally for the PS2. This time, the horror takes place in a Japanese manor in the Heian period. Interstingly, Kuon was also developed by FromSoftware, who make iconic games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls.
Copies of Kuon are incredibly expensive, with most being around $1,000. Yes, if you want to add the physical version of Kuon to your collection, you will need to spend $1,000. Due to the setting and horror aspect, Kuon became quite rare in North America, leading to the hefty price tag.
