While, naturally, you might consider this a fatal blow for The Sims, a series that has been around since the early 2000s, it’s been far from that, withThe Sims 4having its best spell ever onSteam.
The Wait For InZoi Gave The Sims 4’s Player Count A Huge Boost
Since its launch on Steam in 2020, six years after its retail launch, The Sims 4 has maintained a pretty consistent player count. From around October 2022, the game has averaged between 28,000 and 32,000 concurrent players each month, a respectable number for a 10+-year-old game.
It seems, though, that the wait for InZoi had The Sims players itching to get creative, as in February 2025, it had a higher average player count than any previous month on record.
According toSteam Charts, The Sims 4 had an average player count of 34,941 on Steam last month, a 10 percent increase from January and its highest number ever. Using data fromSteamDB, we’ve calculated The Sims 4’s average player count at 28,400 between October 2022 and February 2025. This means that the game saw an increase of almost 19 percent in February compared to that period.
Although it’s impossible to attribute the whole increase to the wait for InZoi, The Sims 4 hadn’t received a new expansion pack since Jul 06, 2025. This means, aside from impatience, there is no other conceivable reason for that many players to come flooding back to the game during that period of time.
February 2025 was The Sims 3’s best month for average players and peak concurrent players since 2022.
Steam Charts also suggests that, in the last 30 days (so for the whole of March), The Sims 4 has seen an average player count of 33,810, behind February. This is still an exceptional number for the game, making March 2025 its second-best month on record. It seems that although people came back to kill time until InZoi, they stuck around until Krafton’s game is more feature-complete.
