In an update later this year, cross-platform mod support will roll out on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, giving console players access to mods for the first time.

This mod support will be rolled out via mod.io, another popular modding site. This means that there will be a dedicated modding menu in-game, which will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. While modding on PC was already available, this official support will make it much easier if you struggle to do it manually.
Baldur’s Gate 3rolled out cross-platform mods via mod.io too, so we can expect it to work similarly with The Witcher 3.
Given the wording ofthe announcement, it seems that no other platforms will get mod support. This means that anyone playing on PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch will have to start playing on another platform if they want to start modding their game.
As per the announcement, not all PC mods will be available to console players. They’ll have to get approved for release on mod.io, which will give us a more limited selection than what we get on Nexus Mods. Still, we can expect a bunch of new fan-made content and ports of old popular mods.
This seems to be a final farewell to The Witcher 3 as CDPRfocuses its attention on The Witcher 4. Typically, mod support like this is a way for a studio to pass us the keys, letting fans keep the game going with new content for years to come. And given that this comes to us around the time ofthe game’s ten-year anniversary, it’s safe to say that The Witcher 3 has had a good run.
