Uxmal, the Beastlord is one of the stranger boss fights inPath of Exile 2; not because they’re particularly complex or difficulty, but simply because much of the fight is going to be spent getting into position to have a proper fight.

Getting to Uxmal is often going to be the more difficult part of the entire experience, as what comes before can be a tougher encounter, and dying on the way is going to reset you back to square one of the instance. We’ll cover the basics of finding and fighting to Uxmal, and we’ll have an in-depth look at the boss fight from start to finish.

One of the Trials of Chaos in Path of Exile 2.

How To Find Uxmal

Uxmal, the Beastlord is going to be found inAct Three, in the Temple of Chaos. You’ll need to have begun the Trials of Chaos, and found the Temple in the quest area.

The Trials Of Chaos

You’ll need tocomplete multiple Trials of Chaos before you reach Uxmal, with each one consisting of a different challenge. Failing the challenge will reset your progress in the trial back to the start, and you won’t reach Uxmal until the fourth trial, on your first time clearing the Trials.

Each Trial is going to require you to select a negative effect that’s going to plague you the rest of the Trial run. Keep these in mind as you progress, because they’re all going to be present when you fight Uxmal.

Preparing For Uxmal

Like manyboss monsters in Act Three,Uxmal has a variety of different elemental attacks. This makes it difficult to prepare for any in particular when it comes to equipment, because adequately covering all of them is going to be difficult.

On top of that, you’ll be fighting with all of the negative effects that you’ve chosen in the trialsalong with you. These can range dramatically from debuffing you own effects, creating damaging areas, and more. You’ll need to keep this in mind as you fight Uxmal, because these can kill you just as easily as Uxmal can.

Blood Globules is one particularly easy negative effect to deal with, as are Stormcaller Runes. These both essentially create area-of-effect attacks that you’ll need to avoid, which you’ll already be focusing on while fighing Uxmal.

Every Uxmal Attack

Uxmal has many different attacks, but they aren’t particularly complex or difficult to avoid.

Slam

Physical

One of Uxmal’s only physical attacks is a slam. They’llroar, lift their front legs, and a red indicator will flash above them; simply step or roll away from them, and you’ll avoid the damage entirely. This is a medium-damage attack, provided you have armor.

Bite

The other physical attack of Uxmal’s is by far their weakest, and is just asmall bite if you’re in range. If you’re wearing a gearset with plenty of physical armor, this damage is not going to put too big of a dent in your health, and with good health regen, it’ll be healed right back up. Make the most of the opportunity when Uxmal uses this toget in as much damage as you can.

Fireball

Fire

Uxmal will rear up in a similar way to their slam attack, but instead, the center head is going to spark fire in their mouth. Uxmal willlurch forward, and spit out a fireball. This is an easy attack to dodge; just move horizontally from the Beastlord.

Flying Fire Breath

Possibly the most dangerous attack in Uxmal’s repertoire, Uxmal will occasionallyfly into the air, breathing fire directly below them. This is going to deal massive damage if you’re caught inside of it, so be sure to move directly away from them, because it’s a slow-moving attack. It will leave a fire effect on the ground in its wake.

Standing Fire Breath

This is a much easier fire attack to deal with, and can be exploited for some damage. Uxmal does not telegraph this attack much, but it will beginshooting fire in a cone in front of them. As soon as they start doing this, get to the side or behind Uxmal to begin dealing damage uncontested. This attack is most dangerous when Uxmal is at the top of a staircase, and you can’t see it coming.

Poison Tail

Poison

Without much warning, Uxmal will beginfiring poison darts out of their tail. This will damage on contact, and create a poison ground effect where they land. Getting close to Uxmal will avoid this attack entirely, as will moving away.

Ice Breath

Ice

Uxmal will lift their up, and a red indicator will flash over their head before theybreathe directly at the ground, creating an ice field in a wide radius around them. This is going to cause heavy damage and slow you, making it more difficult to dodge the following attack. Move away from Uxmal the moment you see the red indicator on their head.

Lightning Ball

Lightning

Uxmal will pull slightly back beforespitting a ball of lightning out of all three mouths. These don’t move particularly fast, so for a melee character, dodge behind Uxmal, and for a ranged character, simply move in between them. When they dissipate, they will leave a lightning ground effect in their wake.

Uxmal generally only does the Flying Fire Breath attack on the top level, the Ice Breath attack on the middle level, and the Lightning Ball attack on the bottom level.

Tips For Defeating Uxmal

Uxmal isnot a difficult boss to face, when compared with many others in PoE 2. That said, many players struggle with Uxmal, becausethe fight can last for quite a long time. Some players end up fighting Uxmal for upwards of 20 minutes, while others can do it much quicker. The speed at which it takes you to defeat Uxmal is going todepend largely on your build.

Have A Damage-Over-Time Effect

The reason Uxmal can take so long to kill isn’t because of a particularly large health bar, but becausethey spend a lot of time flying in between sections of the arena. Chasing Uxmal down takes a little time, and certain times you’ll be spending a long time dodging their area-of-effect (AoE) attacks rather than actually damaging them.

To help offset this, it can be extraordinarily helpful tobring something that has a damage-over-time (DoT) effect. This is going to ensure that Uxmal is taking some damage for a few seconds after you’ve hit them and are either chasing them down or dodging attacks, and is going to help you keep making progress.

Attaching a bleeding effect with theLacerateSupport Gemto your primary attack, in our case Mace Strike, is an especially easy way to create extra damage, particularly over long periods of time. We also attachedLife Thiefto our Mace Strike, allowing us to heal away Uxmal’s lower-damage attacks while we attacked.

Retreat To Heal

If you’ve been hit hard by one of Uxmal’s attacks, you don’t always need to slam down a healing flask. Instead,if you have a safe route, you may just move to the other side of the arena. Uxmal almost never follows you, and it’llgive you a chance to get some of your health back, especially if you’ve got a build with good health regeneration.

Take It Slow

Uxmal is not a difficult fight, but because of how long they can take to defeat, many people are going to fall due to unforced errors.Every single one of Uxmal’s heavy-damage attacks is easy to avoid, and getting hit by them is almost always going to be because you took a chance you shouldn’t have.

Fight smart, and avoid his attacks. It’s not worth risking restating the entire instance just to damage themwhen you should be dodging.
