Usagi Tsukino is the main protagonist ofSailor Moonwho undergoes various changes in her transformation form. This variation in her costumes also signifies her growth across various arcs. She undergoes minor changes to her default outfit which is characterized with a Sailor top with a large pink bow, large pink boots, long white gloves, and a Tiara on her head.
She also gains new moves when her form changes and these are always stronger than her previous attacks, which she eventually stops using. Her brooch also changes, and she uses different iconic chants to transform. These mechanics in the anime are a major reason why her character is so popular among Shojo fans.
Sailor Moon Form
Usagi Tsukino was living herlife as an ordinary studentuntil she saved Luna. The cat later visits her and gives hera brooch which she could use to transforminto a Sailor Soldier.
After chanting"Moon Prism Power Make Up!“her appearance changed into a Sailor costume, and she gained new powers. Thesource of these abilities is the Moonitself, which wasSailor Moon’s home planetin her past life.
The Sailor costume outfits resemble the sailor outfits which are worn as school uniforms in Japan.
This was Sailor Moon’s first form, and she was tasked to find the Silver Crystal. At this point, Usagi uses somebasic attacks including the Moon Twilight Flashand her Tiara to useMoon Tiara Boomerang. Luna gave her aMoon Sticklater in the anime which she uses to cast Moon Healing Escalation.
After obtaining the Silver Crystal, herbrooch changed its form. She could now transform it by chanting “Moon Crystal Power Make Up” and channel the new powers bestowed on her.
Using theCosmic Heart Compact, she can chant"Moon Cosmic Power Make Up”. In this form, she gains theCutie Moon Rodwhich also allows her touse a new move, Moon Princess Halation,which she continues to use throughout the second arc.
The Silver Crystal is a powerful magic crystal owned by the Moon Kingdom. It possesses great healing powers as shown when Usagi restores the damage done to the city in the anime during the third arc.
Princess Serenity Form
The Princess Serenity form is reminiscent of her past life in Silver Millenium.Usagi wears a long white dress, and it seems to only appear when herpower is at its peak.
She changes into this form temporarilyduring the showdownsin the original anime. The first appearance of this form was seen when Usagi regained her lost memories of ancient times.
Super Sailor Moon Form
The threat of Pharoah 90 is too great in the third arc of the series, so Sailor Moon once again gains a new transformation afterusing the power of the Holy Grail. Herappearance changes dramatically, with herblue skirt becoming white with yellow and blue outlines. The shoulder area of her outfit has more layers and she alsowears a feathered hair accessory.
She gains theSpiral Heart Moon Rod and uses Moon Spiral Heart Attack and Rainbow Moon Heartacherepeatedly to defeat enemies. Combining her powers with Chibi Moon, she also castsRainbow Double Moon Heartache. She gets into this form bychanting “Crisis Make Up” using the Holy Grailwhen she is already transformed into her Sailor Form. She is later able to transform directly into this form by usingCrisis Moon Compact.
Eternal Sailor Moon
Eternal Sailor Moon is the strongest Sailor Moon form, which came into being only after thesupport of all Sailors in the battle against Nehelennia. It saves Usagi from the brink of defeat, as she casts hernew ultimate attack, Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss. Later she receives the Eternal Moon Article as her transformation brooch.
During the fifth arc, she is able totransform into it freely by chanting “Moon Eternal Make Up!” This form also changes the costume’s appearance drastically, as Usagi now hasangel-like wingsalong with her Sailor uniform. She also wears a three-layered skirt with blue, pink, and yellow layers. Her boots have turnedwhite with a pink outlineon the edges.
