Running into enemies or even normal creatures in the wilderness is a common occurrence in Cryodiil. This is why it’s important to be prepared so you don’t get caught by surprise and fall. You can buy or find armor that canprotectyou from attacks, but you also need to be able to hit enemies back.

Oblivion Remasteredhas various weapons that you can use in a fight, but which weapon is perfect for you depends on your character.Stealthy charactersmay fare well with ranged attacks to get a stealth bonus. On the other hand, mages may use stavesalongside their spells. Every weapon type can be ranked according to your character’s strengths.

Goblin Shaman Staff in Oblivion Remastered.

10Staves

Ranged Magical Weapon

Staves are a ranged weapon type in Oblivion Remastered that are usually used by mages because of the spells they are infused with. Each staff in the game has a different spell attached to it and its effects range from dealing destruction damage to enemies to paralyzing them. The power of the staff depends on the type of spell used.

Staves have a drawback as they have a set number of charges, and you can only use the spell until the charge runs out. It’s possible to recharge staves through Varla Stones found in places like Ayleid Ruins and merchants in certain shops, or you can do it yourself, but there is an entire process involved.

Ebony Warhammer in Oblivion Remastered.

9Warhammer

Heavy Hitter

Warhammers are two-handed blunt weapons that offer great damage at the cost of speed. If you don’t mind dealing slow but massive damage to enemies, then this is the right choice for you. While warhammers do look nice and imposing, their slowness is a significant downside, especially against multiple enemies.

The large weapon has a reach advantage that lets you strike enemies from a short distance, but the same enemies can quickly get close to you by the time you may swing the warhammer again. The primary advantages are the weapon type’s reach, strength, and imposing appearance.

Ebony Mace in Oblivion Remastered.

8Mace

Heavy Dagger

Maces are similar to daggers because of their smaller size compared to other blunt-type weapons, but there are stark differences. This weapon type is considerably bulky, which makes using it harder and slower than a regular dagger. In addition, because of its form, the mace’s attacks aren’t as precise as a cut from a sharp blade.

That’s not to say the weapon is bad and, if you have a strong character, then you can easily use the mace to crush enemy skulls. Maces offer heavy damage with each strike to the enemy, and they’re definitely faster than every other weapon that falls in the blunt category.

Ebony Claymore in Oblivion Remastered.

7Claymores

Two-Handed Blade

Claymores are heavy blades that can’t be used single-handedly because of their size and weight. This means you may’t equip aShieldif you decide to use a claymore, which leaves you open to ranged attacks from enemy archers. While claymores do offer better damage output compared to some other weapons, their slow speed is a significant drawback.

Claymores also offer a longer reach thanks to the weapon type’s bigger form, so you get the benefit of being able to attack enemies from a distance. Claymores are imposing weapons that strike slowly but hard and quickly deal with weaker enemies in a single blow. They may have some downsides, but one good power attack will probably make you forget about them.

Ebony Dagger in Oblivion Remastered.

6Dagger

Stealthy Blade

The dagger is the blade of choice for sneaky characters when their bows and tricks fail to get the task done. This weapon type is smaller, which makes it easier to carry, and you can land fast hits back-to-back. With a decent sneak level, you should be able to stealthily approach your victim and stab them in the back with the added sneak bonus damage.

If your blade skill is sufficient and your dagger is of good quality, then you should be able to inflict a decent amount of damage to enemies. Pairing that with enchantments and this weapon type can be perfect when you are out of other options. The weapon may not deal enough base damage, at least when compared to other weapon types, but it more than serves its purpose.

Ebony Battle Axe in Oblivion Remastered.

5Battle Axe

Packs A Punch

The battle axe is one of the lighter two-handed blunt weapons. In comparison to the warhammer, the battle axe doesn’t have the same reach or high damage, but it can be handled by characters who don’t or can’t use larger weapons. Battle axes are also slower than their blade counterparts because of the added weight but with more damage potential.

Characters primarily using blunt weapons may prefer the battle axe since their higher skill will allow their weapon to perform better. If you want a two-handed weapon that deals significant damage but don’t want to swing the sluggish warhammer every time you see an enemy, then the battle axe may be a good substitute.

Ebony Longsword in Oblivion Remastered.

4Longswords

Longer Reach

The longswords are larger blade weapons that offer more reach and allow you to attack enemies from further away. However, the drawback of this weapon type is that they’re slower compared to smaller weapons.

This is why it’ll take longer for you to deal multiple hits to enemies, potentially leading to them landing attacks on you. The fighter class characters mainly use this weapon type since they prefer fighting enemies head-on, but that isn’t the only way to use these imposing weapons. Try landing a sneak attack with a longsword and watch your enemy’s health drop like a boulder in an ocean.

Ebony War Axe in Oblivion Remastered

3War Axe

Light Fury

The war axes in Oblivion Remastered are one of the lighter blunt weapon types that deal good damage. With decent damage and speed, war axes are in the very middle, perfect if you don’t want to spend minutes defeating enemies or painfully long seconds swinging your weapon.

The war axe is perfect forquickly levelingyour blunt skill and has the added bonus of not being as heavy as a warhammer or battle axe. While it isn’t as imposing as most other weapon types, nothing gets the job done like a good war axe.

Ebony Shortsword in Oblivion Remastered.

2Shortswords

Fast Blade

Shortswords are average-sized blade weapons that offer decent-speed attacks with significant damage. These weapons are most preferred by characters who rely on agility and strength to take down enemies. Usually paired with ashield, the shortswords are the perfect one-handed weapon type if you want to go on an adventure and think you will need to slay fodder enemies.

There is a downside, as shortswords aren’t made for sneaking, since you need to get close to enemies to attack them. This is why this weapon type isn’t favorable if you want to get a sneak attack bonus. However, the fact that you can keep swinging this bad boy without draining all your fatigue more than balances things out.

1Bows And Arrows

Ranged Weapons

Bows are primarily used by archers with various types of projectiles to attack enemies from afar. Thieves and assassins are known to use bows and arrows as they usually lack the strength to go toe-to-toe with enemies. Sneaky characters also prefer the weapon because attacking with ranged arrows allows them to get the sneak bonus.

Bows are significantly better than staves as they don’t run out of charge, but you will need to keep an eye on your arrows, as you may have to bolt from the scene or seek an alternate weapon if you run out of arrows. Like the blade and blunt weapon types, bows also face wear and tear, though you can get your bow up to the mark by using a repair hammer on it.
