While having a certain build in mind might change which race is most advantageous to your needs, these are the best races for general play in Oblivion Remastered.

WhileHigh Elvesare excellent at using spells and bombarding their enemies with magical abilities, theirgreatest strength is also their most glaring weakness.
Vulnerability to Fire, Shock, and Frost damage is a huge problem, especially considering how many Daedra and magic-slinging enemies you’ll face.
Resisting illnesses is nice, but this race is best used as a pure Mage – just prepare to spend most of your time patching up your weaknesses before you may become more powerful. Close-quarters combat will also be a nightmare to deal with, earning High Elves the unfortunate distinction of perhaps the hardest race to start with.
On the other hand,Orcsexcel in close quarters as masters of melee weapons, but will struggle heavily against magic users thanks to theirlack of magical protection and low Speed.Orcs will struggle to close the gaps against ranged foes, but anyone within slashing range is fair game.
If you want to lean intocombatin Oblivion Remastered, thenOrcs are superbfor you. However, you should forget about using magic or jumping around the environment. You’ll miss out on the Speed and acrobatics to escape tough scenarios, and will likely struggle to offset your low Personality stat.
Wood Elves are the polar opposites of Orcs when it comes to combat, asthese characters will rely on Archeryas their main source of damage, while commanding creatures to fight on your behalf. While you might not overpower anyone with your raw Strength, you can be effective in combat.
However,Wood Elves aren’t particularly charmingwhen it comes to Speechcraft, so you will need to be careful not to get into fights that you’re able to’t finish. Wood Elves require a more cautious approach to combat and leveling, as you’ll need to offset your key weaknesses, but you’re primed to be an excellent thief or assassin.
Imperials might be the standard choice when it comes to selecting your character in Oblivion Remastered, but they’re not quite the best race to choose unless you’re ready to chat.
Imperials are excellent at Speechcraft,and you’ll likely benefit from better prices thanks to a strong Mercantile skill, making it easier to get stronger gear and items.
However, Imperials can be a bit of a blank slate when it comes to combat, so you’ll need to put in extra effort to specialize in a certain area, as you won’t have too large of a natural boost. Your Agility and Willpower are your weak points, soexpect to struggle a bit if you want to be an effective mage or thief.
If you’re pining for a return to Skyrim, then you must have missed the plethora of re-releases over the last two decades. However,Nordsare still an excellent option that providesimpressive combat aptitudeat the cost of their social skills. Nords provide similar combat benefits to Orcs with high Strength and Endurance, but come with the same set of weaknesses.
Nords have a low Personality stat, so you won’t be a master trader anytime soon, but you can hunt in the mountains and defeat enemies with ease. While these characters will make certain combat sections of the game easier,magic and mercantile will be two major points of weakness.
Redguards share the same pitfalls as other warrior-based races, like Orcs and Nords, butRedguards have more flexibility in their weapon and armor choices,plus they also resist poison and diseases. Redguards are the best race in Oblivion Remastered for combat, thanks to their versatility and hardiness.
Unfortunately, Redguards also don’t display a particularly strong aptitude for casting spells, soyou’ll need to lean into melee weapons yet again.Luckily, you have plenty of other weapons at your disposal, and you can always pivot into Archery if you need a ranged option.
Moving away from warriors and towards spellcasters, you’ll find the Breton – one of the best pure mage races in Oblivion Remastered. Bretons are generally adept at all types of spellcasting, so you canchoose to focus on whichever school of magic appealsto you.
Conjuration and Restoration are superb for surviving in combat and allow you to even the odds with creatures that will fight for you. However, Bretons need to be great tacticians as their slow Speed and low HP make it easy to die in combat if you’re careless.
Argonians are one of the most fun races to play in Oblivion Remastered, thanks to their unique ability to breathe underwater andpenchant for picking locks.
The immunity to poison is also particularly helpful for fighting dangerous creatures in the wild.
While Argonians are frail and don’t offer much in their Personality, they are solid with magic, and are top-tier thieves and assassins thanks to their Speed, Agility, and natural lockpicking abilities.
If you’re looking for an excellent Spellsword or just want a race that’s good at combat and magic in Oblivion Remastered, then Dark Elves are the perfect option for you. Their talents with blades, bows, and spells are strong, offering one of the most diverse sets of combat skills in the game.
Dark Elves should rush tojoin the Dark Brotherhoodas soon as possible, as your skills are perfectly suited to an assassin’s life. Alternatively, you canjoin the Mage’s Guildfirst to work on your magical skills.
Khajiit are the best race in Oblivion Remastered due to their incredible blend of Speed, Agility, and Intelligence, which pair perfectly with their natural ability to see in the dark. WhileKhajiitaren’t teeming with incredible natural combat or magical boons, theirlack of any major weaknessesis part of what makes them a great race to pick.
If you want tojoin the Thieves' Guildand follow the path of the Grey Fox, then Khajiit are top-tier thanks to their high Agility and decent Speed.
You can also enjoy solid Personality skills from Khajiit, providing you with the perfect skillset to excel as a trader. Lastly, magic is also on the table, as the Khajiit’s versatility makes them the best race in Oblivion Remastered.
