Mages have access to six schools of magic in which they can specialize: Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion, Mysticism, and Restoration. Each school features distinct qualities that set it apart from its peers, with Destruction and Restoration providing especially self-explanatory examples. 6Mysticism
The school of Mysticism offers a range of different applications, from trapping souls to detecting life around you; it’s a bit of a catch-all or miscellaneous category. Detect Life is very useful for keeping track of enemies if you’re concerned with sneaking and landing sneak attacks for extra damage, but it’s not strictly necessary. Dispel and spell absorptions are nice, but can be easily replaced by using a Breton, or by selecting the Atronach birth sign.
5Alteration
Alteration is similar to Mysticismin that they’re each most concerned with making your life easier with general quality-of-life improvements. Whether you want to carry more gear, breathe underwater, orautomatically pick locks, Alteration offers a spell that can meet your needs.
We’ve all been stuck walking slowly back to a merchant when we have a pack full of valuable goods. Alteration can help with that.
While many Alteration spells, especially the lock-opening variants, are designed to help certain character builds, the school’sfeather spellsthat lighten your encumbranceare universally helpful.If you need shields from certain types of damage, then Alteration can also offer help there.
4Restoration
Restoration is perhaps the most straightforward school of magic in Oblivion Remastered, as it handles one area very well: healing. Whether you’re low on HP or afflicted with a terrible affliction that’s draining your skills, Restoration can help patch you up.

While temporary fortification boons are best used for enchanting items, healing on demand is undoubtedly the best quality the Restoration school can offer. This cheap alternative to healing or curing potions is helpful for you and your allies, but the school’s situational nature holds it back.
3Conjuration
Conjuration is arguably the most versatile school of Magic in Oblivion Remastered, as it can alter your playstyle completely by summoning gear to use or creatures to command. While there’s no denying that it can be incredibly useful to instantly summon weapons and armor for yourself, they don’t last particularly long, so it’s more of a panic button for when your gear breaks.
However, Conjuration shines in its ability tosummon a wide range of increasingly powerful creatures,the higher your expertise rises. By the time you reach Master rank, you’ll be able to summon a Dremora Lord, a Lich, or even an extremely powerful Xivali, which can use magic against your foes. Summoning your minions to assist in combat is a blast and can get you through almost any combat scenario.
2Destruction
Much like Restoration, Destruction magic offers you exactly what you’d suspect, but the effectiveness of this magic in combat makes it one of the best schools of magic in Oblivion Remastered. Destruction offers several sub-categories, including elemental (Frost,Shock, Flame) damage.
Destruction allows you to damage your enemies' HP or weaken their attributes, skills, and armor. The plethora ofsynergizing combinations you can create within Destructionis staggering, especially if you combine weakness to elemental damage spells with the same element’s damaging options.
1Illusion
While the Destruction school of magic offers the most direct route to defeating enemies,Illusion providesthe mostdiverse and effective toolsfor creatively weaving your ideal Oblivion Remastered experience. Illusion magic allows you to affect others and command them with just a touch, or deceive them by making them question their eyes.
Illusion spells provide excellent temporary effects on demand when cast, or offer partial, but permanent bonuses when enchanted on armor pieces.
The major highlight of Illusion is theChameleonspell, which, whenapplied to multiple armor pieces to total 100 percent,provides permanent invisibility.Master-level Illusion can also grant you invisibility for two minutes viaSpectral Form, enabling expert thievery or deadly sneak attacks.
