Though you’ll have plenty to pay attention to in the main story ofThe Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, there will be several Free Time segments between those and battles that allow you some time to run around the school doing all kinds of things to prepare for battle.
But with such a big campus, over a dozen teammatesto get to know, and several different ways to level up your skills before the next battles, it can be overwhelming choosing what to do in your Free Time in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, but here are our suggestions.

8Sleeping
That’s What Nighttime Is For!
Sure, when you’re on subsequent playthroughs of The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, you’ll have plenty of reason to want to skip throughFree Time segments: you’ve hung out with everyone, your grades are topped out, and you want to speed toward one of the many endings in the game.
But on your first time through the game, you’d do well to do anythingbutsnooze away the Free Time! With so much to do around campus to get ready for your next fights, there’s always something better you could be doing.

7Expeditions
Plenty Of Resources Whenever You Go Out (Even For Story Missions)
You’re going to need a ton of resources and materials if you’re trying to dish out presents to your friends with the Gift-o-Matic, and to get them, you’ve got plenty ofexpeditions beyond the Undying Flamesto contend with to keep your inventory stocked.
Exploring itself is a good idea, and we’d encourage it anytime you’re sent past the Flames, but the main story will make you go on enough expeditions as part of the progression of the game that you’ll almost never need to spend too much time out there on your own. Unless there’s a treasure you really need, you may be better off staying in school.

6Making Traps And Enhancements
Helpful In A Pinch In Combat
Once you’ve ventured out to the Second-to-Last Defense Academy and recruited the teammates that were holding the fort down out there, you’ll have access to new items you can use on your turn to help bolster your team’s stats in some way, be it offensively with bombs and tonics to make you stronger, or defensively with fences and mines.
With access to the Bio Lab and Metal Shop opening once Yugamu and Kurara have come to your school’s campus, and the process to make them not consuming your Free Time, it’s not a bad idea to keep stocked up.

5VR Training
Practice Using New Teammates And Earn BP
There aremore than a dozen squad battlesto contend with in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy’s main story, but if you’d like another taste of the top-down tactical action with your teammates by your side, head up to the Training Room to spend some time in the VR machine.
With new training missions unlocking regularly throughout the story and these fights giving you plenty of chances to practice with new teammates or upgraded Class Weapons before you’re in a fight for the school. Plus, who doesn’t want extra BP?

4Hanging Out With Your Teammates
#Friendship
As soon as you’re able to have some Free Time around the Last Defense Academy, you’ll see that some of your teammates have green marks on their portraits when you see them on the map of the school – this means they’re free to hang out, and doing so will helpboost your gradesin a subject or two.
Spending these Free Time segments with your friends isn’t the most fruitful way to gain points toward your gradedirectly, but doing so will teach you new filter words to use as hashtags when picking presents to create in the Gift-o-Matic.Save your resourcesto use on the presents you know more about and can more specifically hand out!

3Reading In The Library
If Not For The Grades, Then For The Lore
When the Library unlocks after the battle whereTsubasa and Gaku join the team, you’ll have access to a couple books on each of the subjects on Takumi’s report card, and you’ll see that score-wise, reading in the Library during your free time is the fastest way to raise a grade in any subject.
Books take two Free Time slots to read, but they’ll boost your grades by quite a lot (the first time you read them, that is – repeats aren’t as effective). You’ll even learn some interesting world lore amid the pages.

2Using The Gift-O-Matic
Everyone Likes Getting Stuff!
When you’re back at school, head to the Rec Room anduse the Gift-o-Maticto fabricate some kind of ridiculous present for your teammate of choice. Everyone at school has a handful of items they’ll prefer to receive, and the more they like the present, the more your grade increases.
Sure, using the Gift-o-Matic requires plenty of the resources you’ve been collecting on your expeditions, but that’s what they’re for! Once you’ve got an idea what your classmates will enjoy (by checking out the information on their page in the report card and by sharp-shooting the hashtags you feel like they’d appreciate most), giving them a beloved gift for the first time is one of the best ways to raise your grades.

1Upgrading Class Weapons
You Can Never Be Too Powerful
With so many combat missions ahead of the team – you’re here at the LastDefenseAcademy, after all – you’ll need to do anything you can to keep ahead of the game and be prepared, since you never know quite when the school invaders will attack the campus. As such, you’d be wise to routinely stop by the Garage or Training Room to spend your hard-earned Battle Points toupgrade your teammate’s Class Weaponsas much as possible.
Doing so doesn’t even take up your Free Time slot, so you’ll still have time to hang out with your pals afterwards. You’ll need to hit specific grades in specific subjects before you can spring for these increases, so check in frequently to see which new attacks or buffs you can add to which teammates before the next big fight.
