While the combination of action and platforming gameplay is what makes playing throughSouth of Midnightso enjoyable, the heart of the game is the narrative and the characters that we meet through it.
Despite being a relatively short adventure, South of Midnightintroduces us to plenty of charactersthat are fun to watch and easy to relate to. If you’ve ever wondered which character from South of Midnight you are most similar to, then one of the best methods is using your Zodiac sign. So, out of all the characters in South of Midnight, who best suits each star sign?

12Aries - Jolene
March 21 - April 19
During the fifth chapter of South of Midnight, we first meet Prospero’s eccentric preacher, Jolene. While Hazel doesn’t get too much time to chat with her face-to-face, we spend the rest of the chapter learning about her backstory and the struggles she went through thanks to the cruel actions of her father.
Despite a tough upbringing, Jolene has blossomed into a confident woman with a positive influence over her congregation, and we can see this in how she’s reacting to the disastrous flood surrounding the church. Her leadership skills and eager attitude are what make her such a clear Aries.

11Taurus - Laurant
April 20 - May 20
Throughout the first half of South of Midnight, there are a few references to Laurant, and it’s obvious, based on her reactions, that Hazel doesn’t think of the man fondly. However, once we finally get a chance to meet him in person, it’s clear that Hazel’s misconceptions clouded her perception of him.
Upon learning that Laurant is a supernatural transformingcryptid called a Rougarou, all of Laurant’s more inexplicable personality traits start to make sense to Hazel. His stoic demeanor and his strong will disguised as stubbornness all stem from him trying to protect those he loves from his true nature.

10Gemini - Honey Island Swamp Monster
May 21 - June 20
One of the last new characters Hazel meets throughout South of Midnight before the plot starts to wrap up is the charming Honey Island Swamp Monster. Despite his name, this ‘monster’ is anything but frightening, being a charming presence that makes the eleventh chapter of the game a light amongst the darker developments of the plot.
In spite of how lovable the creature is, Hazel learns over the course of the chapter that he’s the reincarnation of Ayotunde’s lost baby, explaining his immature nature. In spite of this, the Honey Island Swamp Monster’s ability to light up the room, as well as his adaptability to learn to live in the swamps, is a perfect example of a Gemini.

9Cancer - Benjy
June 21 - July 22
By the time Hazel meets Benjy in South of Midnight’s third chapter, it has been years since the boy has been transformed into the giant tree that he now takes the form of. However, in meeting his brother and Hazel learning touse her Weaver abilities, we discover how Benjy became this way.
Once just a young boy who was ostracized for not fitting in, Benjy’s brother, in a fit of rage, trapped his brother inside a hollow tree, where he eventually passed, but since the spirits took pity on him, they let him live on through the body of the tree. While Cancer don’t often fulfill such a tragic role, Benjy represents their emotional side as well as how they can often be overwhelmed by their fear.

8Leo - Roux
July 23 - August 22
While we don’t meet Roux in person until very late into South of Midnight, he’s a presence we feel throughout the game, with his voice popping up in tense moments and during chases from Kooshma’s Hunger.
When Hazel does finally get to know Roux, his massive presence and confident nature make him an unforgettable character. Roux seems to revel in being at the center of attention, as seen during his dance sequence with Hazel. Thanks to his control over illusions, we can tell that he’s an incredibly powerful character, too, making him a fitting Leo.

7Virgo - Ayotunde
August 23 - September 22
After spending a chapter getting to know the Honey Island Swamp Monster and playing around with him in the swamp, the plot takes a more serious turn when we meet the spirit of his mother, taking the form of the giant mermaid-like Ayotunde.
Through learning about Ayotunde’s backstory, we find out that she was an incredibly self-sacrificial and calm person, but we also see how she loses control once the fate of her baby is left unknown. It’s cathartic to see the heartwarming reunion of Ayotunde and her son, and it solidifies her role as a Virgo.

6Libra - Two-Toed Tom
September 23 - October 22
Even though Two-Toed Tom is a giant alligator who haunts the waters of the flooded farm, he also manages to get plenty of character development and backstory thanks to how his narrative intertwines with Jolene’s.
The giant gator was once abused and mistreated by Jolene’s cruel father, but after Jolene managed to set him free, we witness just how quickly Tom was able to get justice by eating the man who had treated him so cruelly. Acting as a powerful equalizing force, Two-Toed Tom is an unconventional yet fitting pick for a Libra.

5Scorpio - Bunny
October 23 - November 21
Upon meeting Hazel’s estranged grandmother Bunny early on in South of Midnight, it’s clear that there’s something to this woman that isn’t being revealed to the audience, and as we progress through the story, we’ll find out just why Bunny acts the way she does.
Despite the horrendous lengths Bunny would go to get her deceased daughter back from the dead, she manages to remain calm, keeping a strong rein over her fiery intensity and passion. And even though she is eventually outwitted by Hazel, Bunny is displayed to be a perceptive and intelligent character for most of the game.

4Sagittarius - Catfish
November 22 - December 21
While most of the characters we meet throughout South of Midnight have a tragic, well-developed backstory or lore, Catfish stands out for being a more light-hearted, yet enigmatic presence. Despite this, he’s one of the most entertaining characters to follow, and his conversations with Hazel have some of the best dialogue in the game.
Catfish is shown to be enthusiastic whenever he gets to help Hazel, even if he’s sometimes a bit cowardly when it comes to actually following through. Even though he’s one of the chattiest characters in the game, he’s also shown to be quite cerebral as well, making him a fitting choice for a Sagittarius.

3Capricorn - Huggin' Molly
December 22 - January 19
Throughout most of South of Midnight, Huggin' Molly is shown to be a powerful and antagonistic presence, whom Hazel needs to track down and defeat in order to return her mother to safety. However, by the time we actually get to know Molly, we learn that her motivations are much less evil than originally expected.
The giant spider-like cryptid wasn’t kidnapping abandoned children for malicious reasons, but was in fact working with Hazel’s mother to heal them and keep them safe from a world that has forgotten them. As a character who is serious and goal-oriented, and often misunderstood because of this, Huggin' Molly is a clear Capricorn.
