The inscrutable Mother Jago lives inAtomfall’s Casterfell Woods, and she’s one of the few people in that region who won’t attack you on sight. In fact, if you talk to her for a few minutes, she’ll even give you a quest that can lead to more clues about the mystery at the heart of the Quarantine Zone.

Mother Jago’s Herbalism Book is somewhere in the old castle that the druids use as a base, but that doesn’t give you much to go on - the castle is pretty big, after all, and the druids don’t take kindly to trespassers.

Beware of patrolling druids, but don’t worry too much if you take damage; the feast hall and surrounding rooms haveplenty of food that you can heal withif needed.

The table on the left in the apothecary has the recipe forStrange Tonic, which helps fight off infection, as well as some Spores that can be used for crafting your first batch. If you’re feeling brave, you canget the Castle Key from the left side of the castleand open the secret passage behind the throne.Killing the High Priestessat the bottom of the caves yields an Atom Battery, and behind her pulpit is a secret exit that you may use to slip out into the woods with less trouble from the gate guards.

Quest Reward

Returning the book to Mother Jago opens a second, optional quest if you present yourself as open to Mother Jago’s spiritual ideas. She’ll give you anOffering, which makes druids non-violent toward you while you carry it, so long as you don’t attack them first.

If you bring the Offering to the Speaking Cave between the castle and the Sewer Tunnels, andplace it at the feet of the idol inside, Mother Jago will meet you at the entrance when you leave. Keep going along with her ideas (even if you don’t plan to follow through) and she’ll give you more leads about the Interchange and how to reach it.
