There is a lot to do inXenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. You can explore the vast planet of Mira, take down powerful indigens, spend time with your party, and build your very own Skell and kit it out with any weapons you desire. But as you progress through the game, you’ll start to realise the true endgame is in managing your FrontierNav setup.

FrontierNav is your only source of Miranium, and your main source of income. Credits are great to get from quests, but those will dry up eventually. The planet of Mira is rich in both resources and money though. Now you just need the Research Probes to actually capitalise on that. So here’s where to find more of them.

A glow of light as a data probe is installed in xenoblade chronicles x definitive edition.

Every Way To Get More Research Probes

Every Type Of Research Probe

Before you start seeking out more Research Probes, let’s go over how they actually work. There are a whole lot less of them than there are Mining Probes, so you’ll want to be using them to the best of your ability. Research Probes will still bring in a small amount of Miranium, though dramatically less than a Mining Probe, and a bit less than a default Data Probe.

Each Research Probe has a default amount of credits it will generate, which is thenmultiplied by its Income Ability based on the Grade of the siteit is placed in. Here is each Research Probe and its relevant stats.

Take a regular Research Probe 1 as an example. Even though 2,000 Credits is its base rate,it can actually gain less than that if placed in a site with a low letter grade. On the flip side, many sites also have a bonus if you discover all of the local secret areas. This increases the default credit rate of that probe by the Base Credit Rate. So a Research Probe placed in a site with two discovered hidden areas would now have aBase Credit Rate of 6,000 Credits before multiplication.

If you then take a Research Probe G6 in this same scenario, placing it in a site with two discovered secret areas would bring itsBase Credit Rate up to 13,500, and with an Income Ability of 450%, that can easily be brought up to tens of thousands with just a single probe in the right place.

Every Way To Get Research Probes

Research Probes are found in the same ways as every other probe, though with much less frequency. As such, you’ll want to be thorough if you want to start building up your income through FrontierNav. Here’s every way in which you can find them.

Overall, there’s no real way to cheat this or speed it up, especially since they can’t be bought. You just have to play the game, though knowing where to place your focus might help speed up the hunt just a little bit.

Keep in mind that some Treasure Points will need anincreased Mechanical, Biological, or Archaeological Field Skill, which are unlocked from the Off The Record Basic Missions.

Are Research Probes Used Up When Placed?

The game introduces FrontierNav to you quite early, though also throws everything about it at you from the very beginning. Which makes it a bit harder to actually know what’s going on since some smaller aspects aren’t actually explained to you. Likewhat happens to a probe after you place it down.

Every type of Probe is finite, and all of them have preset locations. So what happens after you place them? Nothing. If you don’t like where you’ve placed a probe, you can just replace it with another one, including the default Data Probe. There is a credit cost associated with moving them, but you’ll never lose them. Once you acquire a Research Probe, or any probe for that matter, you can place it and move it freely.
