Leveling up your favorite weapons is a satisfying feat inClair Obscur: Expedition 33.Not only does each upgrade make your gear more powerful, but it also unlocks new traits to design your overall build around. Getting to Weapon Level 32 with Grandiose Chroma Catalysts takes nearly the entire game, but it’s worth the time and effort.
As it turns out, though, there’s one more level that each weapon can reach, but upgrading to Level 33 requires aPerfect Chroma Catalyst. These are exceedingly rare; in fact, you’ll only find a handful throughout the game.
How To Find Perfect Chroma Catalysts
Perfect Chroma Catalysts canonly be found in the game’s most dangerous, optional dungeons; the Flying Manor and Renoir’s Drafts.
To reach the Flying Manor,have Esquie fly high in the skynorthwest of the Forgotten Battlefield until you see aglass pyramid. To reach Renoir’s Drafts,complete Esquie’s relationship questto gain the ability to dive, thenenter Renoir’s Draftsin the circle of rocks south of Visages' Island.
There are more Perfect Chroma Catalysts in the Flying Manor than in Renoir’s Drafts, and the boss there is slightly easier, so you should go there first.
The minibosses in both dungeons aredangerous Chromatic Nevrons, but all have fighting styles that you’ll likely be familiar with by the time you reach them. Each defeated minibossyields a single Perfect Chroma Catalyst, enough to upgrade one weapon from Level 32 to 33.
Clea and Simon, the end bosses of Flying Manor and Renoir’s Drafts respectively, also drop Perfect Chroma Catalysts, but they areamong the hardest fights in the entire game.It’s better to hunt the minibosses in each dungeon - four in Flying Manor and one Chromatic Creation hidden behind a breakable blue rock in Renoir’s Drafts - so thateveryone in the Expedition has one max-level weaponbefore even attempting to fight either boss.
What Are Perfect Chroma Catalysts For?
Leveling a weapon from 32 to 33nearly doubles its base power, bringing it up past eight thousand. That’sbefore factoring in Attribute bonusesand Traits; with one S-tier Attribute and one A-tier Attribue (both of which should be at 99 for the equipped character), a Level 33 weapon is one of the biggest upgrades you’re able to get in the entire game.
Since there are so few Perfect Chroma Catalysts to go around, you shouldcarefully consider which weapon for each character you’re going to max out.By the time you’re far enough along that you have access to these rare materials, you’ll probably have a favored weapon for each member of Expedition 33. Still, it’s worthtaking another look at possible buildsfor everyone, and making sure you’ve completed everyone’s personal quests to ensure that you have hidden weapons likeLithumandJoyaro, before committing a Perfect Chroma Catalyst to an irreversible upgrade.
