There’s something to discover everywhere you go inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, from the far corners of Cyrodiil to the heart of the Imperial City. Along the western border is a city known as Chorrol, and a bit further is Battlehorn Castle–a potential player home. However, acquiring it is only the beginning.

Establishing the castle’s presence again will take time and money, but there are secrets within the castle that keep things interesting. We’ll show you how to uncover the history of the castle and the location of a hidden room that’s been sealed away for years, right under your nose.

This is a hidden quest that’snot tracked in your journal, and you’ll be evicted some unwanted tenants from your castle.

How To Find The Secret Room In Battlehorn Castle

Upon making Battlehorn Castle your home, make your way tothe Private Quartersat the back of the second floor. From here, headstraight down the hallto the nook with the bookcases. Turn to your left andinteract with the pillar on the rightto reveal a secret room.

Inside you’ll find various chests and crates with loot, along with a ladder to the roof, butthe real prize is Lord Jaren’s journalsitting on the shelf. Pick it up andread through to learn about a secrethe kept hidden–the ill-fatedend of the previous lord and the necromancerthat changed him!

Since thisquest isn’t tracked, you’ll need toactually read the bookto know what the next steps are. Lord Jaren mentions thatthe old castle grotto was sealed off, so you’ll need tofind it on your ownif you want to earn some exquisite loot.

Where To Find The Hidden Grotto

Make your way to theBattlehorn Castle Basement. Find the training room, then circle around to the far corner where a dummy is strung up. Behind it,interact with the sconce on the rightto open another secret door.

Follow the tunnel tofind a wooden doorleading to the forgotten grotto. Before you go in,ensure you have plenty of potionsand repair your armor. You’re in fora tough fightif you go in unprepared.

How To Defeat The Lich

Once you’reinside the Battlehorn Castle Grotto, you’ll face off against none other than Lord Kain–a powerful skeleton lord with an enchanted sword and shield.

Thankfully, he’s the easier of the two unwanted tenants. Your other challenge isthe formidable Arielle Jurard, the necromancer-turned-lich that has been sealed away within the grotto. Though you can try to sneak up on her, it’s quite difficult to catch a ghost off guard.

This lich has no relation to Arielle Jurard from theAnvil Recomendation quest.

Approach the lich with caution,slaying her with your best spells and weapons. Lord Kain’s gear will work wonders here to help you ward off her attacks. Once she’s slain,search her remains for the lich key.

You canhead to the bottom of the grottoto open achest with lootbefore returning to the castle. Take a deep breath before diving!

Make sure you grab the multiple glowing Varla Stones before you leave!
