There are quite a few missions inXenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. While they do become more varied and plentiful as the game goes on, there are many for you to engage in even in the earliest sections of the game. Many of these introduce you to the game’s mechanics, as well as how harsh it can be.

The Repair Job is one of the earliest you can get, and is also one that, by merit of the choices you make, can be much more difficult than it has any right to be. The rewards, however, are even better this way. Here’s everything you need to know about the Repair Job, and where to find some of those more elusive materials.

How To Start The Repair Job Mission

With The Repair Job being such an early quest, it is one that has very few requirements associated with it. Because it centers around Lin so much, you do need at least1-star of affinity with her, but that should be easy to get even this earlier. The other requirement is to havecompleted Chapter Three, Builders of a Legacy so that Tatsu can be present. Finally, you must beat least level 13.

After these requirements are met, you just have to pick up the mission from the Blade Barracks. This is an Affinity Mission, which means thatyou must complete it after you accept it. Speak with Lin, and she’ll talk about a technical fault she’s worried about in the structure of NLA that might pose a threat to the city.

Repairing The Fault

She first asks you to visit Bart on the wall of NLA’s West Gate to get some energy readings, only to discover that there is a fairly significant energy leak issue. Determined to fix this, she sets out with your help to findthree L-002 Power Cables. These are found in theStarfall Basinof Primordia, where you begin the game. Each of them is located inside a piece of White Whale Debris.

After you’ve collected these, return to let Lin do her repairs. After patching up the system, she laments that this feels like it is only a temporary solution, and that it will break down again at some point. Here, you are presented with two choices, which you may not initially even know are choices. These are tosympathise with Lin, and help her find a more permanent solution, oragree with Tatsuthat Lin has done enough, that not everything needs to be perfect.

Agree With Tatsu

If you agree with Tatsu, that’s it. The quest is finished. Lin accepts that though perfection is nice, it isn’t always necessary, and it can always be fixed again in future anyway. The quest is completed, and you are given9,000 credits and 160 EXPas a reward.

Agree With Lin

Agreeing with Lin instead extends the quest, and by a rather dramatic degree. She already has an idea on how to solve this permanently, and asks for your help in gathering up a whole new set of items. These includefive White Cometites, two Energy Tubes, and four Cruise Deflector AiRs. Seeing as you likely haven’t explored far beyond Primordia at this point, these items may prove difficult to achieve.

The game has a tendency to highlight the nearest currently available location for these items, though this cansometimes lead you into much higher-level territory than you need to.

Let’s check out where to find each of these items below:

Even after you’ve gotten the Data Probe set up to gather White Cometites, you do still need to wait for them. Sadly, standing still doesn’t work here, as the timer only moves when you’re actively doing something. So get those legs traveling around if you want to ever finish this mission.

Once you finally have gathered up all these pieces, just return to Bart to let Lin finally finish the repairs. As thanks for all this extra work, you get10,000 Credits and 170 EXP. Not much more for all that effort, but at least Lin is happy.

You also unlock theGatling Gun Art, Fire Carnival, for your own character regardless of the route you take.
