InXenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, there are four types of missions: Story, Affinity, Normal, and Basic. Combined, these forge every quest in the game. Story Missions advance the core plot, while Affinity Missions are highly important in their own right. Normal Missions can be fairly extensive affairs, and should always be looked into.
Yet, with366Basic Missions - not to mention their very checklist-style presentation - we don’t actually recommend chasing after every single one of them unless you have a ton of time on your hands. We do, however, recommend the following Basic Missions, which are surprisingly big deals!

There are three categories of Basic Missions: Bounty, Gathering, and Social. You’re going to find that the bulk of the Basic Missions we’ve listed belong to theSocialcategory, as these frequently lead to unlockable content. The categories are cited beside the quest names when you visit the Mission Board in NLA to obtain Basic Missions.
6House Of Cards
Time For A Change
In theHouse of CardsBasic Mission, available afterChapter 5and requiring the Normal MissionYardley’s Schemeto have been completed before it’ll pop up on the list, your reward is a machine which can be accessed to change your appearance.
This is theonlyway in Xenoblade Chronicles X tomodify your player character’s looks, gender, and/or voiceafter that first time you boot up a new file. If you’re the sort who wants to fine-tune your image - or maybe you retrospectively hate how things turned out in this regard - don’t miss House of Cards!

5Off The Record
Three Times The Fun
Off the Recordis actually a series ofthree Basic Missions. Each of theseunlocks a specific type of special Field Skill.
In the original Xenoblade Chronicles X, the Field Skill process was more involved; in Definitive Edition, these are more straightforward affairs.

The three Field Skills includeArchaeological, Mechanical, and Biological. You must complete specific chapters before each will eventually show up in theBasic Missions list:
4Flight Module
Sky’s The Limit
Flight Moduleis a Basic Mission which leads toA Girl’s Wings. A Girl’s Wings is anAffinity Missionavailable after Chapter 9, d it’s inarguably one of the most important Affinity Missions in Xenoblade Chronicles X, as it unlocks the titularFlight Modulefor your Skells.
With the Flight Module installed, you may now fly rather than being stuck to land and slow sea passage. This is necessary in order tofully complete the game, as there areFrontierNav sites, assorted treasures, certain Tyrants, and more that can only be accessed in this fashion.

Plus, flying iscool! As far as Basic Missions go, there’s nothing “basic” about Flight Module.
3Search Request
Have Some Heart-to-Hearts
Like Off the Record,Search Request involves multiple Basic Missions. Getting them to show up on the Mission Board means completing theNine Lives Affinity Missionfirst.
Nine Lives is available afterChapter 5, by the way.
Once you’ve finished Nine Lives, you’ll get anAbyssinian Catwho you can add toBLADE Barracks. Nifty! More practically speaking, having a cat is a prerequisite for a fair number of Heart-to-Hearts. The game doesn’t really make this clear, but yes.
Other Heart-to-Hearts require ownership of a dog, however, andyou can only get dogs (and other cats) via Search Request Basic Missions.

In practice, this can be a bit frustrating, since the Search Request Basic Missions are susceptible to the same odds-based appearances on the Mission Board as many others. Butalways keep an eye out for these or you’ll be depriving yourself of the ability to fulfill various Heart-to-Hearts!
2Backup Request
Hire Some More Help
There aretwo Backup Request Basic Missions. The first of whichautomatically appears on the Mission Board after Chapter 4; the second arrivesafter Chapter 5. In the first Backup Request, your client isPhog; in the subsequent mission, it’sBoze.
What makes these two Basic Missions so invaluable is thatthey both lead to party member recruitments. Wrap up Backup Request (Phog) for Phog; ditto for Backup Request (Boze) and Boze. You can’t get much more pivotal than this!

1Guinea Pigs Wanted!
Synchronize With Synchrony
Guinea Pigs Wanted!is the one Basic Mission that we’d say is even more imperative than the Backup Requests. It, too, leads to a party member recruitment; this time, it’s a lass namedAlexa. Specifically, this Basic Mission’s acceptance leads toWeaponized, the relevant Affinity Mission.
The thing about Guinea Pigs Accepted! is that, frankly, this party member is better- at least in our opinion. Alexa isone of only two characters who have the Synchrony Skill, whichincreases several stats when piloting a Skell.
While this is certainly a bit situational, its sheer rarity, and incredible savviness when youarepiloting Skells, makesSynchrony one of the best Skills in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Plus, you’ll need to advance Alexa’s (or Yelv’s) Affinity Missions to put Synchrony on your player character!
