Summary
PlayStationbegan a beta for itsPlayStation Portalin 2024 that allowed owners of the handheld device with an active PS Plus Premium subscriptionto stream games without the input of a PS5. While the selection of games you may stream on the Portal is still somewhat limited, it seems PlayStation has expanded those options by adding a lot ofPS1andPSPgames to its Portal streaming pool.
The update on streamable games via the Portal’s betacomes courtesy of TrueTrophies. With more than 30 PS1 games and PSP games now streamable without your Portal needing to communicate with aPS5, you can now play almost all of the games added to Premium from both platforms on PlayStation’s handheld, moving it one step closer to a standalone device than a companion accessory.

PlayStation launched the cloud streaming beta for the Portal in November, almost exactly one year after the accessory was released. Even though the beta has been limited, and remains that way despite the influx of classic games, quite a few of the titles in its Extra library can be streamed on the device without the need for a PS5. More than 120 of them, although until today, that selection exclusively included PS5 games.
You Can Now Play Even More Games Via Cloud Streaming On Your Portal
Pretty Much All Of The PS1 And PSP Games Currently Available On Premium
Even though most of Premium’s PS1 and PSP libraries are now available via the Portal streaming beta, there are a handful of notable absences. If you were hoping to playWorms,Worms Armageddon, Grandia, or Harvest Moon Back To Nature on the Portal without the need for a PS5, you’re out of luck. Disney’s Up and Toy Story 3 on PSP also cannot be streamed via the cloud to your Portal.
PlayStation continues to slowly make the Portal more and more appealing, although even at launch when it was criticized for its limitations, the device was sold out everywhere for quite a while. With theNintendo Switch 2coming later this year, andXbox possibly releasing a standalone handheld deviceat around the same time, it will be interesting to see if PlayStation tries to make a bigger splash in the handheld pool or just carries on trying to improve the Portal.
